Mozilla 1.3 out

Postby Hendikins » Thu 13 Mar, 2003 6:25 pm

Nothing really noteworthy since 1.3b, mainly bugfixes.

MacOS X: XPInstall has been disabled for 1.3 (Bug 196959)

Hmmm.. Netscape could build 'Buffy' off 1.3, but I think a 1.4 Mozilla release for 'Buffy' is more likely, just check out all the bugs the Netscape engineers are aiming to have fixed for the 1.4a and 1.4b.

*'Buffy' being the codename for the next major Netscape release.

XPInstall on the Mac has been hosed, that will only affect a handfull of Mozilla users though.

Other than that, 1.3 is awesome, if they continue gaining ground like this, Microsoft better watch itself.

And yes, Windows 9x crashing is fixed, although I never had that problem being on XP and all 8) Windows 98 sucks!!! It was probably a bug in Mozilla that was colliding with a bug or technical limitation in Windows 98, I have no idea why people keep using that pile of crap, XP is soooooooooooooo much more Godlike, errrrrrrr, UNIXlike :D

I will, eventually, have to go to winXP. I never had a problem with 1.3x and that pile of crap. I understand it, and I will stick to it, as long as my old computer runs, in spite of Linux. This is my preference, and your preference is fine. Enough said.

Interesting, as I have found Windows 98SE to be extremely stable. My PC is 2 years old, a Dell, and I can say that it runs perfectly. Windows never falters, and I will be the last of the Mohicans, when it comes to upgrading.

Hear! Hear! Ramona. I upgraded to WinMe when it was first released, so much for the latest and greatest, I'm back on 98SE, it still rocks. I will be trying something new sometime this year however, am intrigued by all I've heard about XP but I'm also intrigued at the thought of going with some flavor of Linux ... hmmm, there is a new OS available also that has peeked my curiosity - Lindows. Linux at its core but with the familiararity of Windows, and of course - Netscape as its system browser. Might get me a copy of Partition Magic and flip-flop between XP and Lindows ... still debating.

Alright, so here is why I think 98SE is unstable. Clean install, It boots into Windows for the first time. I use the floppy disk to install Network drivers, then I configure the network. I boot up, connect into the network ... then install the video drivers (Nvidia detenator drivers) and the thing gives me a BSOD! This install was 30 minutes old, and it crashed! Once I put more memory into this computer, it too will run XP Pro or 2k Pro.
