Mozilla 1.7 Looks Terrible in Linux

Postby Jeffredo » Sat 19 Jun, 2004 12:59 pm

Hello everyone. I just installed Mozilla 1.7 on SuSe 9.1. This is my second day with Linux, so I'm pretty green as to how to do things (I'm amazed I got it installed!). It works fine, but the tool bars, text and menus look awful (very choppy, not smooth). I think there may be something wrong with the fonts or anti-aliasing, but I have no clue as to how to fix it. Also, is there a way to get the Mozilla executable command pinned to the desktop or desktop menu? It's a hassle having to go the the Moziila folder to open it every time (It has a KDE desktop)! Thanks.

I'm currently using Mozilla 1.7 Final on MandrakeLinux 9.2 and the toolbars, menus, and text don't look bad here.

As for getting the Mozilla executable on the desktop, you'll have to do this:

1.) Right-click on the desktop.

2.) Go to Create New ---> Link to Application.

3.) Type in "Mozilla" for the name of application.

4.) Click on the "Execute" tab.

5.) Then click "Browse" and try to locate where you installed Mozilla 1.7 and choose "mozilla" as the file. Click OK.
Example: /usr/lcoal/mozilla17/mozilla. <-- This is where it is on my computer.

6.)Then, if you want, you can get an icon for Mozilla on Linux. So, click on the General tab and click on the Icon. If you want the original Mozilla icon go to the ~/icons directory of your Mozlla directory and you should be able to find it there. On my computer, it's /usr/local/mozilla17/icons.

Thank you very much! A little different from setting up a shortcut in Windows, but not too complicated! :D

I downgraded from SuSE 9.1 to 9.0 because of persistent printing problems with 9.1, and Mozilla 1.7 looks fine with 9.0.
