Once that dreadful message shows up, you have no options but being forced to install whatsoever software/update Firefox deem fit on your computer upon the next relaunching of software.

Apple does not do things in such unethical manner.
In Apple's case, you still have time to opt-out when the Apple Software Update notification shows up.

Back to the topic.

Apple has revised the Software Update (for Windows) during recent release of [sdt=14619]Safari 3.1.1[/sdt]. Where updates and new software are clearly distinguished. And can be easily opted out. (It could be easily opted out before, the change makes it even easier.)

On the other hand, Mozilla Firefox is still deploying the [sdt=13042]default setting tactic which forces users to install software at Mozilla's wishes[/sdt].

I am glad that I am out of this.

I have no use for iTunes. I tried it to be able to buy music. But I will not buy DRM protected music, so, bye-bye iTunes.

Independently, being a browser enthusiast, I tried Safari. It was simply too simple, not enough extensions, although right nowI just use Colorful Tabs.

I do not see the point for Windows users of either iTunes or Safari.

Antony,
I don't understand why you are making all the fuss. I did remark as a reply to your announcement of the release of the release of Safari3.1.1 that Apple's policy is, in some ways as bad or worse than Firefox.
I never saw a problem before 3.1.1, and as I said I was caught by surprise. And, you know, very well, that if you don't read what is in your Options, or at the beginning of an installation, you will have some surprise. I do read the option, and I make my changes, accordingly.
May be there is a way to opt out with Safari, after installation, but I did not take a chance.
Instead of dragging this issue, why not explain what happens if the default settings are taken, and how one can safeguard from surprise.
Apple is just as an unethical as Mozilla Firefox. Only in a different way.
