I suppose it's personal preference, but I never really cared for the Qute theme. It's seem a bit too "cute" (in a cartoonish sort of way). One of the first things I would do after downloading is change to another theme. I actually prefer the new Winstripe theme for it's clean simplicity. A bit more polish and it'll be fine in my book.

I re-downloaded it on my iMac earlier, only to face the same problem as before.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

Hi,
I never thought that we would have those type of problems with Mozilla Based browsers.

You should bear in mind that Mozilla Firefox is still only pre-1.0 technology preview software.
That's why I mostly recommend, to regular non techie, end users that need an alternative
to IE, that they install the Mozilla Application Suite, instead of Mozilla Firefox.

Once Mozilla Firefox has achieved and surpassed1.0 status and beyond, I'll then start to
recommend it (as well as the Mozilla App-Suite) to non-techie end users that wouldn't
be confident with installing what is still currently incomplete beta quality software.

GOOD news! :D

Today I decided to experiment. After backing up my original system files, I tried copying newer versions of urlmon.dll and shlwapi.dll over from a computer with Windows 98 SE and IE 6.0, to see what would happen. I'm unaware as to what affect this will have on stability (since I wouldn't be surprised if these particular system file versions weren't intended for this particular OS) but they seem to have worked fine so far. Now, I can successfully run Mozilla Firefox 0.9 RC under Windows 95 OSR2! I even find myself liking the new theme, which retains simplicity while still looking visually attractive.

My faith is restored in the Mozilla Firefox development team once again.

Not-so-good news:

I don't know what I did, but one time I ran the program and found the menus to be grayed-out and inaccessable, as seen in the screenshot above. I closed and restarted Firefox, and found everything back to normal, and this hasn't happened since.

You could have installed IE 5 or 5.5, and that would have added those files. Better to have no IE though :)

Oh dear, is it just me, or is Theme switching totally messed up . . .

I've just installed the Firefox Modern theme and . . .

Image

Trying to use the Customise Toolbars feature to remove the excess buttons causes this . . .

Image

So, that feature also appears to be up a certain creek, without a paddle!
All it's doing is shuffling the buttons and widgets around the main toolbar!

On switching back to the new default theme, all the buttons and other toolbar widgets
still appear to be all mixed up. This is happening on versions of Windows I've installed.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem with the themes and toolbar widgets?

If so, it seems that Mozilla Firefox 0.9RC is almost as buggy as Netscape 6.0 was!

DJGM, that same problem happined to me, with the same theme, in Firefox 0.8, so I think is a theme spific bug.

DJGM:
If you think what happened to your FireFox toolbar is bad, you should see what the GreyModern theme for Moz1.4 did to my Netscape 7.1 Address Book. I get a page full of random icons.

It turned into a tripod image? :D The only time I've ever had that problem was when I tried a really old version of a theme on Mozilla 1.5, a few months ago.
