Mozilla Firefox in Windows Marketplace

Postby Ron Williams » Thu 27 Jan, 2005 6:46 pm

I was wondering if microsoft would list mozilla firefox in windows marketplace. Goto http://www.windowsmarketplace.com and type in the search area mozilla firefox. Not only does it bring up firefox but also additions to the browser. HAHA no wonder firefox is getting more marketshare they are advertising a competitor on there own site.

Opera and (older versions of) Netscape are there as well.
It's just a service, and should be fair to all, regardless the ownership.

For example, Netscape's DMOZ (open directory) do have plenty listings to MSIE and related sites.

Indeed, there is a block of text about Firefox, complete with a screengrab.

BUT . . .

When I looked just now, to immediate right is this:

Ironic, or just typical? Go figure . . . !

This dosen't surprise me. Apple has had a similar guide for Mac software over the last five years. I see this as a courtesy. Nothing more.

Sure, Firefox might be there, but..

OK, what gives. Why is a lower-rated and older Netscape over the newer and better-rated Netscape? Honestly, why do they even have Communicator in there?

Better yet..

Communicator 4.79 is NOT the latest version of Communictor! If they want to put Communicator in, at least put the Complete install, and at least put it at the bottom of the rest! Honestly, 7.2 is at the bottom while an outdated Base Install version is at the top.

Al, they hate Firefox more than they hate NS. MS hated NS when NS was big. Now that NS is small, there's no worry. Since Firefox is gaining lots of steam on IE, their new worry is Firefox, not NS.

/Off-Topic
Wow, what's with all the name acronyms, NS, MS, IE, Fx?

Still, about 1% of the market share still use Netscape. Firefox will be a concern for MS. If Firefox does get 10% for the browser share and IE drops down to 70% by the end of 2005. Then IE really needs some catching up to do
