MS killing off Internet Explorer (brand)

Postby Antony » Tue 17 Mar, 2015 9:31 pm

According to The Verge, Microsoft is killing off Internet Explorer, and will introduce a new browser codenamed Project Spartan which does not have a new name yet.

Internet Explorer will still exist in some versions of Windows 10 mainly for enterprise compatibility, but the new Project Spartan will be named separately and will be the primary way for Windows 10 users to access the web.

If as the codename suggested, the new browser could be focused on simple approach, similar to Chrome.

Yes, and it could also support extensions (i.e. Chrome extensions). It is supposed to be a super secure browser with a bare bones GUI. I look forward to trying it since Firefox is increasingly becoming a pig of a browser and I hate Seamonkey and Chrome. LOL Not much left out there.

(you are picky it seems)

I hope the Spartan have great support for web standards, saving web developers headaches on special tweaking codes (for IE).

We're all picky, Antony... from those who will only use Macs to those who love Windows... from those who will only run Linux to the rest of us. LOL As for browsers, I'm not a fan of Chrome (anymore) given the cavalier attitude of Google towards our privacy. I hate SM because of its outmoded suite look (same reason I detested the older Opera suite). I'm currently using FF but find that with each passing day it seems to become more and more bloated. I'm hopeful that the new Spartan browser will stay light on resources and remain super secure. Time will tell.
