First of all, why are you installing a 4.x release? 5.0 is the latest version of MySQL.

Second, you need admin rights to install NT services. I'm guessing that's what you're running as, but check anyway.

Third, make sure you're appropriately configured everything properly in Instance Configuration -- is it possible that you're pointing something in the wrong direction?

What's wrong with not using the latest software? 4.x is still far more popular than 5.0 release.

Latest version does not mean the best. It's perfectly fine not to run/obtain the latest of whatsoever.

Just like more websites are still running of Apache 1.3.x than Apache 2.x
