N7 Issues....

Postby Dickerson » Sun 03 Nov, 2002 2:53 pm

I came home on Friday to find my PC (PII, Win98) locked up, and after trying various things, had to simply turn it off and start over. Whenever I started up N7 (Browser and Mail) my PC locked up again, with the only way to do anything was to turn off the PC, and start over.

I narrowed the issue down to the N7 Mail, but from there I can not find the problem. I un-installed N7, began using my N4.8 for mail and IE6 for browsing, and have had no further problems.

I am downloading, as I type this, the N7 stand-alone from Silly Dog, and hope that it works.

Does anybody have any ideas what the issue may have been, or is. Up until Friday, N7 wa working fine.

By the way, I do have the N7 CD from Netscape, along with the book, but nothing in there addressed this problem.

Thanks in advance

Hi Michael,

Too bad that you uninstalled 7.0, before we had a chance to do some troubleshooting. There are a few fixes for Mail problems, the most often used, and most often successful, is to delete the *.msf files in the Mail folder.

Sometimes, in the Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings|Outgoing Server (SMTP)' changing the setting to "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" to Never instead of When Available solves the problem.

The Mail *.msf folders corrupt often, but deleting them and letting Netscape rebuild the files usually works as a fix. It is a wise user indeed who backs up his Mail Folder on a frequent, if not daily, basis.
