Navigator 9.0.0.5 antics

Postby Fulvio » Fri 01 Feb, 2008 1:22 pm

I know that this is rather irrelevant, at this point, but, since there are, still, many Netscape believers, I thought that I would share my experience with Navig.9.
When I found out that Navig.9 was not going to be supported, having perfectly working Firefox and Flock, I decided to uninstall Navig.9, and I guess that I deleted the profile, as well (bad mistake, as you will see, later).
I downloaded a new install file, and installed 9.0.0.5, importing the settings from Netscape7.2.
Navig.9 seemed to work fine, but had no Tabs, which were present in NS7.2. I decided to open them, and save them as Home Page (home group in NS7.2).
If I restarted Navig.9, my Tabs came back. If I closed and and, then, reopened it, only the Tab at the far left, plus a blank came. If I clicked on the Home button, all tabs came back.
I tried a number of things to no avail. Only changing from Home Page to "show my windows and tabs from last time" worked, but I had to put up with extra Tabs, etc. if I did not revert to initial conditions. I tried to uninstall/reinstall with no improvement.
Finally, the Get Mail button does not work.
I may uninstall, remove the profile, and start from scratch, creating a new profile, with settings imported from Firefox.

I'm curious as to why you deleted your profile in the first place? :?

I had no idea that I did, but it was gone.
Anyway, I uninstalled Navig.9.0.0.5, deleted the profile, cleaned up the Registry, and then reinstalled Navig.9.0.0.5, importing settings from one, inactive, Firefox profile. It came out with the five Tabs which I had before.
Even Get Mail Plus seemed to work, opening Thunderbird, but I got greedy. After it worked the first time around, I tried to enter a non-default path. I had it in my previous install. Then, I tried to revert to the default mail, and it got so far as opening a Send Mail, but Mail and News (check mail) refused to come up.
I, also, found out that the Weatherbug add-on which comes with the program is not useful, unless you live in Mountain View, CA. Yes, I can get the local weather, by getting into the website, but I have not figured out a way to show the correct weather into toolbar.
Anyway, Forecastfox is working nicely.

How about something really dumb? The path to Messenger 9 copied from the shortcut properties|Target line are: "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Messenger 9\messenger.exe". No go.
The path in Flock Get Mail Plus is: C:\Program Files\Netscape\Messenger 9\messenger.exe
It works in Flock, and in Navigator 9, when pasted into the path. Obvious, isn't? 8-) :o

Get Mail is fine, but the stupid thing have reverted to showing only one proper tab, plus one untitled. Easy to fix, if I click on the Home button. Then the other Tabs show.
Should anyone care, I reinstalled Navigator 9, which was ok, but no better than Firefox, because someone at another website was enchanted with Navig.9.x. I wanted to see why, he thought that way. Had I had this experience at the onset, I would have rid of this thing.
