You may try with Win98. I know that it went nowhere with WinXP. It is a 16-bit application, very unstable when compared with the present 32-bit.
It went nowhere, and it dumped a lot of files on the desktop. But nothing was installed, so no registry keys to wonder about.

You can find NCSA Mosaic (32-bit) archived there.
It's ALMOST as crappy as Netscape Navigator 4 though, so be warned.
