An open-source and fully-featured set of office applications (including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing programs) for Mac OS X, NeoOffice 2.1 was released on 27th March 2007. This release is based on OpenOffice.org 2.1 code, and includes all of the new OpenOffice.org 2.1 features.

Features in NeoOffice 2.1:
  • supports Microsoft Office 2007 Word documents
  • Handles Macros in Excel Files
  • Aqua interface
    Unlike OpenOffice.org, NeoOffice has native Aqua interface
  • No X11 software required
    NeoOffice uses Java technology. Java support is built into Mac OS X.
  • Integrated with Finder and Mail
  • Uses Mac OS X fonts
    Unlike OpenOffice.org
  • Handles international keyboards
  • Native printing support
  • Native copy and paste support
  • Native drag-and-drop support

NeoOffice 2.1 requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later, 512MB of RAM, 400MB of free disk space.

NeoOffice 2.1 can be downloaded here. It is available separately for PowerPC and Intel builds.
