Netscape 4.79 and Yahoo Mail

Postby francesca » Thu 24 Oct, 2002 1:57 pm

I want to continue with Netscape as my browser and also continue using my Yahoo e-mail address.

Ever since Yahoo re-did its Mail program a couple months ago, I've had problems, particularly loading that doesn't stop. When I previously inquired whether Yahoo would be upgrading their Netscape support (for choice of fonts, etc.) they replied No, that to date they only supported N 4.7.
As to the Yahoo Mail page loading that doesn't finish, I was advised to enlarge my Cache settings. I've done so and still have the problem.

I seem to be getting an increasing number of Error messages or freezing while browsing with Netscape, and the performance (efficiency) is dropping unexplainedly (right now at 48%).

Anyone have suggestions about improving the Yahoo experience? If that's not possible, can I read Yahoo mail via Netscape mail?

Should I upgrade to Netscape 7? I'm assuming my recent problems while online may be somehow capacity-related and possibly better handled in the new version.

I'd appreciate any advice you can send on either issue!

Francesca,

Since using NS 7/Moz 1.xx, I have been able to use Yahoo! Mail and all of its functions. If NS 4.xx is giving you a headache, its due to the fact that the technology behind the browser is old, very old.

I fired up my old Communicator 4.72 and tried to use Yahoo Mail, with limited success. I would reccommend upgrading to the newer, much better, Netscape 7.

You should be able to set up Yahoo, as pop3 account, if you pay for it.
At this point, Yahoo is one step below Microsoft, after they changed all my Preferences, and two weeks later I was informed that I had the choice of using the account as webmail, or, I would have to pay, not much, but my account is unusable. 690 e-mail in one month, in my Bulk folder. 10% of them were legitimate. And over 120 supposedly legitimate. Half of them SPAM. They made so many changes that I do not know what you can do now, though.
