Netscape 4.79 Messenger - Auto Download of New Messages

Postby eager to learn » Fri 08 Jun, 2007 1:11 am

Hi,

I'm trying to prevent the automatic download of new e-mail messages.

I want to have to click Get Messages to download them and not get them downloading as soon as Messenger loads.

I went into Edit, Preferencess, Mail and Newsgroups but I can't find under any of the Tabs where you can check or uncheck a box that would prevent the auto download of new messages.

Can anyone please explain exactly hwere I find how to make sure the news messages are not automatically downloaded?

Thank you very much.

Set the Netscape Messenger to automatically check and download new emails. You might need to keep Netscape running, and click Get Mail for the first time you launch it.

Netscape 4.79 Messenger - Auto Download of New Messages

I actually Do *NOT* want to automatically download the messages.

I want to have to clikc Get Messages and then the messages download.

I don't see anywhere in Netscape Messenger where you can check or un-check so that you do *NOT* receive the messages automatically.

Thanks.

I agree - I too don't see any direct control of this, as in later products.
But: you may be able to work around this. (I can't test to validate.)

Experiment with the Offline settings.
Check the 'Ask Me' box for when Netscape comes up.
Then, when bringing up Netscape, be Online for Navigator or Offline for Messenger.
If already in Navigator, remember to go Offline before activating Messenger; and then go back Online when ready to suck in any new messages.

Netscape 4.79 Messenger - Auto Download of New Messages

Postby eager to learn » Sat 09 Jun, 2007 12:30 am

Somehow on my desktop running NS 4.8 it does *NOT* auto download but on my laptop running NS 4.79 it does auto download.

Yet, when I go into Edit, Preferences I see no differences in the settings.

I don't know how the one prevetns auto downloading while teh other auto downloads.

It must be magic. :)
