Netscape 4.8 and email problems

Postby mac51 » Mon 27 Sep, 2004 5:27 pm

Hi everyone, just found this site and would appreciate any assistance from you.
When trying to get my email ... that works fine - it is when I try to reply to an email or send a new email the addressing works OK/subject works OK/ the body of the message, when I hit return to go to another line ** (hit enter) little boxes show up instead of letters and I can not finish the email ... I have never had a problem with this before. I have not changed any settings .. nothing. I send everything in plain text and have checked the preferences to make sure they are set correctly ..

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,
Sincerely

What email application you use?
The Mail in Communicator? the Mail in Netscape 6 or 7? OR Microsoft's Outlook Express?

Weird! Your e-mail indicates that are using NS4.8, and this is a new problem, correct?
I just did a test. Reply did not work. It, just would quote, and it hung. After restarting NS4.8 I I addressed the message, and entered a subject. Then placed my cursor into the message are, and, wrote a line. Hit Return, and it looked fine.
Is the first line ok, or any initial lines?

Hi and thank you for your response .... I am using Netscape 4.8 for email.. but need to interject here that the ISP I had been using was a pop 3 mail server. I am writing to you via the ISP I have left that works.
I have Windows XP PRO ... also had on the computer Netscape 7.0 of which I did not use. I am wondering if there was a conflict between Netscape 4.8 and Netscape 7.0 on the same computer??
The ISP was Allvantage ... I deleted it because I could not write email as a result of the problem.

The ISP I am using at present is Juno .... to try and get assistance.

Thank you soo much for trying to help out ... I have not been able to get email from the lists I belong to for a while ....

Hi and thank you for trying to help out! Yes this is a new problem ...

Please bear with me?? I guess that I did not include sufficient information for you ... I am new to this forum and trying to get the hang of searching for help ....

I am using Windows Xp Pro/Netscape 4.8/Netscape 7.0 is loaded on this computer but I do not use it. The email that I was having so much trouble with was a "pop 3 server" ... of which I have deleted since the problems started... and I could not figure out how to reply to my email/lists I belong to.

I start to write in the body of the message and no matter how much I type or how little, when I hit return, comma what ever to try and go to the next line .... the return will not work and little square boxes will replace what I have tried to do ....

Your assistance if very much appreciated! I have just about given up on getting back online to excess my email and list information ....
I am writing the forum via Juno ...

Try creating a new profile.

Postby goGecko » Tue 28 Sep, 2004 9:56 pm

Go to start...all programs...netscape....profile manager and choose to create a new profile. Launch netscape with the new profile and re-enter the account information. Try composing a message and check for the irregular boxes. Does this resolve the problem? If so, we can help you move all of your old mail, history, etc... from the old profile to the new one. Otherwise, there might be some more suggestions that we could come up with....

I visited the Allvantage website, bu beside dumping a zillion of cookies, I found it to have an excellent page for setting mail . I never saw anything like it for any other ISP. Does it work? I have no way to check.

October 4, 2004 Allvantage

Postby mac51 » Mon 04 Oct, 2004 5:59 pm

HI! The ISP works OK fine with Netscape 7.0 and higher ... my problem was with Netscape 4.8 that is all I had for email untill I installed the incredimail (sp) program. That seems to be working fine .... I had Netscape 7.0 on the machine but hated it!! soo I deleted it!! :))

If you want to try Allvantage? they have a special that lets you use the ISP for two weeks and if you do not like it, you can cancel it. Another ISP I really wanted to try was "Intergate" .... you may want to check this one out also ... Intergate has a great support group and it does not cost anything for assistance.

Thank you for your help still not sure what happened to my Netscape 4.8 email but hopefully will not have to go back to it. I am still using it as a browser for the moment.

I know several people that are using Allvantage and not having any problems .... plus the price is right .. :))

Let me know if I can help???

Sincerely,
Mac
