Netscape 4.8 java script error

Postby duderoo » Tue 11 Nov, 2003 6:02 am

We have Netscape 4.8 customised for our orginisation and we have a few clients that have a java script error coming up when loading Navigator. I have checkthe DNS entry, recreated the profile, and reinstalled Netscape but it still comes up with the error and I can browse sites once the error is cleared, any suggestions.

It just says java script error......we tried specifying the DNS entries which has solved it, but on other machines where there is no specifying it works fine, so somewhere else the problem must lie.

Which page do you visit gives you the JavaScript error?
And what is the entire error message?

OR you get that error whenever you launch Navigator?

When it is launched, and seems to be because it seems to look for the dns entries to resolve the url etc.

DNS or URL thing is usually the network connection issues.

Then, my first guess would be the default home page setting...
Suggestion: Try to change the default home page (start up page) to somewhere else or blank page.

Are you in a special network environment? (requires proxy settings)

Have tried the default and no joy, and yes we have to specify a proxy.

Is your proxy setting correct?
In both Windows' Control Panel and Netscape's Preference box?

Firstly, after the JavaScript error message during start up, are you able to surf the net or network?

Secondly, can you tell me the exact error message?

Thirdly, are you able to change the start up homepage?

So your Netscape Communicator 4.8 is customised and the proxy settings are locked?
