HI Folks...

How do I set up 4.8 to receive
HTML e-mails ?

I've found the area in preferences
on how to "send" HTML e-mails ,
but not how to recieve them.

I used to get HTML e-mails just
fine. However , for the last few
weeks , all e-mails are coming
in "plain text".

It is, quite possibly, a "View" setting in your Netscape Communicator. [I no longer have Netscape 4.8 installed on this system, so I can not be sure of this.] The Mail component of the current Mozilla (version 1.7.3) has a "View" option on the top toolbar that has "message body" as a choice. Clicking on that gives me a choice between "original HTML", "simple HTML", and "plain text." Sometimes people somehow select "plain text" which causes the problem that you mention. If this is true, changing the option to "Original HTML" should fix it.

Someone who still has Netscape 4.8 should verify this setting or offer better advice.

Bruce,
all these all e-mails which you expect to be HTML. The fact remains that if the Sender composes a message HTML, you can select, in the later NS or Moz to view in HTML, simple HTML or plain text. I don't see this choice in 4.8. But if the Sender composes and sends in plain text, there is nothing that can be done to view in HTML. I have 4.8, and I could find nothing.

Fulvio's right about there being no "View" setting like there is in newer Netscape and Mozilla products. I installed Netscape 4.8 at home and could not find such a setting. I'll let you know if I discover anything.

4.8 won't recieve HTML e-mail
Here's a few more thoughts on my problem.


Recently , most e-mails arrive with only this
message.

Part 1.1

Type:
Plain Text (text/plain)

Part 1.1 is in blue. if i click on it the message opens.
If it's a "text" message all is fine. If it's a "fancy"
message , I get lots of lines of letters & numbers
and the message in plain text. This will happen
with emails like American Express Ads , etc.

My provider is Earthlink , is it possable they have
changed something on their end ?? ( A few weeks
ago my email was fine , and had been for years).
