I am attempting to move over 1000 emails from Thunderbird to Outlook. FirstI need to install netscape 4.x.x, copy the mail files without the msf extensions (from thunderbird) into the communicator mail folder. Open Netscape 4.x.x to create the index files (SNM) and then import the messages into Outlook Express then into Outlook. This sounds fine but I am running XP and can I install Netscape 4.x.x? When browsing what is avail I did not see XP mentioned anywhere as being compatible.

To answer your question, yes, Netscape 4 will install on Windows XP without any major problems.

There's a second method to exporting from Thunderbird to Outlook that you may be interested in. Having performed both, I can say that the second way is much easier, and doesn't involve Netscape 4 at all, instead using Outlook Express (built into Windows XP) and a freeware utility called IMAPsize. The directions are over here.

It worked. The only slight problem I had was that my virus software looked at the Imap program as a trojan horse as it was running and would delete anything it produced in the eml folder I set up. Had to keep telling it that it was ok for Imap to do what it was doing.
