I mean no disrespect, and I certainly cannot tell you what to do with money. BUT-

with such minimal equipment, you cannot possibly run much of the new stuff in apps and on web sites.

You could go to a major big box store with computers, even Walmart, put on a blindfold and throw a dart and hit something for smallish dollars that would bring you up to date. I do not recommend this as a way to buy a computer, but you are now in a crippled state, where the world has passed you by.

You need at a minimum, in Windows, for that is all I know, WinXP SP2; a modern CPU by Intel or AMD running somewhere around 2 gigs; if WinXP SP2, then 1 gig DRAM, if Vista, then 2 gigs DRAM, USB 2.0 ports; DVD writer (will also do CD's).

In Mac, Antony of one of the other Mac users can give you some minimal specs.

I know that Dell sells repo's and other un-new equipment at very reduced dollars on their web site, maybe others do also.

We are all here to help you, so please take no offense, none intended.

- The key adverb is 'well'. Have you tried it (FF3)? If performance is not acceptable you easily can uninstall it and get the latest FF 2 - 2.0.0.14. Use the ".exe" file, not the ".exe.asc" file.

I recommend that you not use any Profile created by FF3 with FF2. There are several major changes in 3 that 2 won't recognize. However, you CAN Export any Bookmarks from 3 and Import them into 2.

I have a FF2 pre-release running on a 48M Windows 95 machine. Performance is slow due both to the limited memory and (more) to the 200 MHz processor speed.
