Netscape 7.0 featured on BBC TV . . .

Postby DJGM » Fri 03 Jan, 2003 2:11 pm

A few weeks, during the Learning Zone one night on BBC TWO here
in the UK, there was a program called "Webwise for Beginners". It
was aimed at newbies to home internet connections. Unusually for
the BBC, the program looks at browsers other than MSIE as well
as MSIE itself. Netscape was represented by version 7.0. The
program didn't concentrate on any of the browsers unique
features, rather features that IE and Netscape both have,
although, it would have been nice if something like the
tabbed browsing feature of Netscape got a mention.

Most things in the program were illustrated with MSIE, but it is nice to
see that Netscape hasn't been left out, on a mainstream TV channel.

I've encoded 3 short videoclips from the program in WMV format,
so you'll need a Windows Media compatible player to view them.
To stream the clips, rightclick on each link, Copy Link Location,
and paste the URL into your Windows Media compatible player,
or rightclick and Save Link Target As... to download to your HDD.

Download or stream clip 1 - 4,071Kb

Download or stream clip 2 - 5,148Kb

Download or stream clip 3 - 5,371Kb

I'll probably have RealMedia encoded clips available to stream
or download, once I've brought the filesize below 10Mb each!

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

AND MOZILLA....

Last night (1-2-03) "Screen Savers" devoted some time to Mozilla.
Patrick's task was to "persuade" Marty" to see the light. Besides the many feature advantages, the added security and supporting "open source" software. Much of the staff use Mozilla over IE.... you know'em, the wise ones!!!!

Hi DJGM

Enjoyed the footage from the BBC site. It is nice to see Netscape / Mozilla acknowledged as a equal peers to Mr$Bill ....... although we know it's better.
One observation, coming from a mid-western USA'er.. they sure talk funny!!!

Those links that you gave are curropted and unusable.
You can not alter internet streams and expect them to wrok.

Wellander,
You will most likely need to use MSIE for the link, or copy the URL to Media Player.

No, you don't need to use IE to download these files. Just right-click and Save Target As...
or right click - Copy Link Location, then paste into any Windows Media compatible player.

Both methods are working for me within Netscape 7.01 on SuSE Linux 8.1 . . .

Yes, the links worked fine for me also. Without using IE.
