Netscape 7.0 installation gives XPCOM: 5 error

Postby stumped » Thu 19 Dec, 2002 10:35 am

I have a Win XP Home system, 2.53 GHz, 1 GB RAM, with XP SP1 installed, and I'm running Netscape 4.7. I have tried several times to install Netscape 7.0 and 7.01, including downloading all the files several times.

Every time time I click on "Install", I get the same error: "error occurred during installation - Netscape XPCOM: 5". I can't find any info on this error anywhere, and I get no resposne from Netscape. Any ideas would be welcome!

See if this workaround helps you:

Both MS and NS are looking into a problem with ZLIB.DLL, a common file that can cause the XPCOM-207 error. Look for it in the Windows XP or NT directory (folder). If found, rename to ZLIB_DLL.BAD. Try installing NS again.

I got my downloads from the Netscape web site. Used the NSSteup.exe file and stored the downloaded files on my PC. I have deleted the directory and repeated this, twice.

It is NOT the 207 error, I have looked, and I do NOT have the ZLIB.DLL file on my machine.

FYI, StumpedIL is the same person as stumped. I first submitted my question as a guest, but then had to join to post replies to your replies.

Any more ideas would be appreciated.
