Netscape 7.02 coming out soon!?

Postby leier911 » Mon 17 Feb, 2003 8:58 am

I see from this page's main site under the announcement section, that Netscape 7.02 is coming out. Any ideas when or what Mozilla branch this will be based on?

As of this morning, there is a 7.02 directory (for English) on Netscape's FTP server, so I presume it means 7.02 will be released at some point.

I just hope NS will come to it's senses and base 7.02 on anything newer than 1.0.x...

No, I disagree. 7.02, is only an incremental update, and therefore should
only be concentrated on bugfixes and the like. That's what the Moz 1.0.x
development branch is for, whereas the 1.x trunk (currently upto 1.3b)
is for testing any new features that may cause things to break.

IMO, Netscape should wait until their next major revision, whether it's
numbered 7.5 or 7.1, before they start to base Netscape 7 on the 1.x
development trunk of Mozilla. That's when I think they should put the
customisable toolbars feature in, not in the next incremental update.

I agree 100% with you and DJGM. Just sit and wait. But, this time, I will just wait, unless it is a security thing.

Till now, there are few features that make Mozilla quite superior than Netscape, in fact, recent built of Mozilla show some downgrade in page-loading speed. Maybe 1.4 will be a ideal build that NS could based itself on.

Netscape 7.02

Postby frenchie » Tue 18 Feb, 2003 12:43 pm

According to the Netscape Developer's site Netscape 7.02 is already available for download:

http://wp.netscape.com/download/full_install.html

I'm planning to wait for the 'streamline' version on Silly Dog 701. Will this be available soon?
