netscape 7.1 inbox

Postby st857 » Tue 13 Mar, 2007 11:33 pm

My inbox shows that I always have 1 new message. I cannot find it. I have even gone through and reopened all the mail in the inbox and it still always shows I have 1 new one.

Any ideas how to fix this. Thank you.

May be you have a corrupted header file (Inbox.msf). Where does it show that you have a new message? It, actually, shows unopejned messages, not just new messages. I have dozens of meassages which I can see, but had never been opened. They should up as bolded.

header

on the left in the list of folders it shows inbox(1). there are no bold message headers in list. I have reopened every email in list. yet it always shows (1). When more mail comes in the number goes up accordingly but never back to showing no new mail

I never made much of that count, but if you have any number, when there is no bolded message in the list, I would make a beeline for the wbmail of that account. If there is nothing different there, I would chalk it as a small bug.

I figured it's a bug but how do I get it fixed? It drives me crazy.
Thanks,

As Fulvio intimates (first reply to your original post), this likely is a corrupted Inbox.msf.

With Netscape closed, in Windows Explorer delete the file. It will be rebuilt automatically the next time you access the Inbox within Netscape. (Just don't delete the file Inbox (no type suffix) itself: that IS your emails.)

If that doesn't do the trick then there is a value in panacea.dat that can be cleared.

[Edit] Before the above, however, do a Compact of the Inbox. This won't itself cure this problem, but it will assure that there is a minimum of messages that have to be re-examined for MSF creation. [/Edit]

And, if you do not know how to access or find your Mail, do this, first:

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
To see hidden files:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
2. Click the View tab
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files."
5. Click OK.
The path for NS should be: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net

But, first do right click|compact on the Inbox, with Netscape open. Then close it, and go to Windows Explorer. to delete the Inbox.msf file. It will be rebuilt correctly.
