Alice,

Quicktime had not been set to handle flash files, so that wasn't it.

Also, fortunately, I only have one copy of that npswf32.dll on my computer.

Should I have to reinstall the flash plugin again, I'll take the extra precautions you advocate.

I'm now concerned about odd behavior the day after a successful use of scanreg/restore. It happened today, and has happened to me other times I've used scanreg/restore. See http://sillydog.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=31852 for more on that.

If you have any quicktime plugins copied to the Netscape 7.1 Plugins folder, delete or rename them, for example, Xnpqtplugin.dll Xnpqtplugin2.dll, etc. Netscape 7.1 will find the plugins that are stored in the Program Files\Quicktime\Plugins folder, which will correspond to the Mime settings you've selected.

(QT plugin copies that may exist in Program Fies\Netscape\Netscape\Plugins will overrride the Quicktime Browser Plugin mime settings)

Did you try renaming npmozax.dll? Check my earlier post which I edited recently.

For the sake of completion, this issue seems to be put to rest for now for me.

Netscape/flash worked fine together all day Sunday. Before shutting the computer down on Sunday night, I did a restart (why? I don't know, other than maybe I need to shut down/start up the computer to "save" the registry copy).

On Monday, no problems with flash in Netscape.

Today, same thing.

So until it happens again, I'm okay. Although when I was having problems during the weekend, I wound up uninstalling 7.0 and putting back 6.0 rev 79, so that's what I'm running now.

If it ain't broke...

Thanks for the follow-up.

I hear you, about sticking with Flash 6 for the time being. There ARE security issues with the Internet Explorer (activeX) version of Flash 6, though. See http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/securi ... 03-08.html

You can have different versions of flash installed in IE and Netscape, as I mentioned before. Go to http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ using Internet Explorer if you want to check what flash player version IE is using (hold your mouse over the About button).

Good luck :)
