I probably have some whacky time-consuming idea here, but hear me out and tell me if you think it might work or not.

If you go and download the full installer of Netscape, it unzips a bunch of XPI files to a directory in your Temp folder called ns_temp. If someone were to replace the files with XPIs from Mozilla 1.7 before the install process, what would happen? I don't want to test this right now, mainly because of my giant address book, calendar, and mail backup (NOT server-side).

What would happen. I would assume, that due to the new of "under the hood" changes,
plus improvements and bugfixes, to the Mozilla codebase between Netscape 7.1 (based
upon Mozilla 1.4) and the soon to be released Mozilla 1.7, there'd be major breakage!

If I were you, I'd wait and see if a new CCK accompanies Netscape 7.2 . . .

I remember trying the Netscape 7 CCK on the 7.1 full installer (It worked with other 7.0x releases.) The CCK got confused, and reverted back to the built in 7.0 info.

If you replace the XPI's in ns_temp, you'll end up with Mozilla 1.7 in a Netscape folder. The EXE, icons, settings, etc. will say Mozilla.

I'd wait and see if a new CCK accompanies Netscape 7.2

From what I've been told, no CCK for 7.2. "Will be reconsidered for future releases if things go well"
I'd be surprised if there is one.

If I remember correctly, just about 1 or 2 weeks before the release of NS 7.02 (OR perhaps 7.1), Holger had his own build of Netscape 7.02 (OR 7.1) based on then latest Mozilla instead of Netscape, according his announcement on Netscape secnews.

I did not test his Netscape 7.02, but that's what I read, if I remember correctly.

My point, it is technically possible to possible to build Netscape based on Mozilla. (I don't think it's legal to do so.)

BTW,
Netscape 7.1 Streamline and Netscape 7.1 Streamline Japanese are build with Netscape CCK 7.0 and a number of advanced steps.

I am still unable to post in the Netscape newsgroup (secnews), still doubting that I am being banned.

Nope; remember the unofficial 7.1 beta leak, that was on the FTP server a couple of days before the release?

Are you able to read the groups? Have you tried using a news reader capable of secure NNTP?

What I meant was would I be able to integrate AIM into the sidebar but still have the functionality of Mozilla 1.7. I don't mind having Mozilla icons, etc... as mentioned before

I still believe that he was seeking testers for his very own Netscape 7.02 or 7.1 before the leaks.

No, I can't connect to the newsgroup at all. Unless I use my old Win machine, but in that machine, I was unable to post.

There really isn't any question whether or not Netscape 7.2 will be released. Netscape didn't make the announcement, and start rehiring for nothing.

When will it be released? That depends on the release of Mozilla 1.7. Last year, Netscape 7.1 was released only a few hours before Mozilla 1.4.
Right now, Mozilla 1.7 RC3 should be out on Monday, June 7th, "if all goes well."
Mozilla 1.7, would then be slated for Friday June 11th.

I wanted something like this because Netscapes aren't released as Mozillas are, and newer Mozilla's have new features but I never really wanted to get rid of some of the AOL features that I use. So I figured that if I left NIM and Mail alone and replace browser.xpi and maybe xpcom.xpi I could still get it to integrate with AIM and Netscape Webmail (which is currently my e-mail provider).

Just an idea, but would doing likewise with the Mozilla 1.4.1 XPIs fix the resource leak problem?
