Netscape 7.2 issues: Re-download and install?

Postby lindenhills » Fri 03 Nov, 2006 10:33 am

Greetings to the SillyDog701 managers, its been awhile!

I am still having some small but confounding problems with 7.2: the most critical is the failure in this past year to have attachments "attach" to emails being sent out. I can receive any email attachments sent to me.

If I download 7.2 from the Download Archive and reinstall, will this cure the problem for good? Should I expect to retain all current email and addressbooks?

Your advice is most welcome. Thank you!

Deborah (lindenhills)

Deborah,

The problem is in your Profile, so uninstall/reinstalling Netscape will do nothing. When you send an attachment, is it received inline, or not received at all? Have you tried sending an attachment to yourself, and if so what happens?

Could it be the recipient is blocking the attachment?

Moderator asks "When you send an attachment, is it received inline, or not received at all? Have you tried sending an attachment to yourself, and if so what happens? "

Not received at all. Not received when sent to self. Have gone to web providers webmail to send email with attachments!

The problem started about a year ago, with no changes made or intended in my use of Netscape. Profile efforts were attempted via this forum a year ago, without result, but glad to try again.

I do NOT want to jump to MS Explorer but this problem is really becoming a major business use issue for my client work.

Many thanks!

Deborah,
you have to understand that you will need a "Mail Client", so IE would do no good, as it is a browser only.
There are several possibilities, and, it could be your ISP, which may have made some changes.
I can receive any email attachments sent to me.
. Do you mean that you receive attachments from others, but not when you send them to yourself?

"There are several possibilities, and, it could be your ISP, which may have made some changes..."

I will check with them, though I have been with the same folks for years...

"Do you mean that you receive attachments from others, but not when you send them to yourself?"

Exactly. Strange, yes?

The fact that you were with the same folks for years means as much as when I hear that people are having problems with Netscape, after having used it for years. Why attachments, (any size attachment?), beats me. But creating a new profile may tell if there is a profile problem, or not. I would not go go through the entire procedure. Just set up your mail, and try it. Just in doubt, if you use any Theme other than the standard one, revert back. Themes are notorious in affecting mail.
