I think NS 7.2 needs more recognition than a "1" being changed to a "2".
I remember NS6 and 6.1, the NS homepage was a mass of ads!

EDIT- Saw your provided screenshot later on... I think ZA Pro might be blocking it, since I can't see that.

DJGM verified that Netscape 7.2 for Linux does not have Netscape Toolbar :-(

I'm guessing you could probably copy some JAR or XPI file containing the toolbar to Mac or Linux, since it's probably an XUL toolbar. Or, maybe it calls on Netscape toolbar for IE!?!?! :shock:

. It looks good, but I think I'm going to stick with Googlebar for Mozilla, though.

I'm not a big fan of Netscape Search, I prefer Google greatly. The first thing I did after installing NS7.2 was to click View...Show/Hide...Netscape Toolbar.

Danny Kile in the secnews forum provided this link for adding Google as well as other searches to Netscape 7.2. Once that is done, simply select your prefered search engine in Preferences, and then you can type your searches directly into the URL bar. Much simpler, IMO, than using a specialty toolbar.

Why don't they include font smoothing? In Linux Netscape and Mozilla look terrible without font smoothing!

You'd think that they'd do that with all Netscapes (the NS7.1 detour page, that is). I'm using NS6 and I don't get that prompt. It's also the same with NS4.
Perhaps, they might be trying to avoid the Win95 issue, but I doubt that since they could look for Win95 in a person's UA.

About font smoothing as well: They may not want to have to port a Linux font smoothing-enabled build of Mozilla to Netscape as well as a regular release. IMO, they would do themselves better to port over the XFT+SVG builds, since not only would they have font smoothing, but they would also have SVG support and a built-in Calendar client, which could be designed to sync with NS Calendar. I guess that would be some NS8, although I highly doubt we will ever have NS8.

I see no difference in rendering speed (so far) between NS 7.2 and Mozilla 1.7.2 and Firefox 0.93.

I just plain love Netscape so I suppose I'm willing to put up with some things but here are a few of my initial impressions:

- I like the concept of the Netscape bar with the built-in pop-up blocker along the lines of a Google bar. I also appreciate the ability to "clear browser history" built into this bar.

- on the Nescape bar, I dislike the News. Why? It takes you to Netscape's site and cleverly disables the pop-up blocking (you have to enable it). The news page has Netscape/AOL's obnoxious scrolling news bar which I find extremely distracting. As a consequence I will not visit Netscape News... period.

Overall, I would say that it will probably become my default browser until Firefox goes gold. Then I"ll consign it to my secondary browser/email suite.

2. Forms? How secure is this, given the fact that it asks some very personal information? Do you fear that such information could jeopardize your security? :?:

I'm not sure, but I think you have to have "Check for Updates" enabled in Preferences in order to see the detour page. This setting can be found at Edit...Preferences...Advanced...Software Installation.

I found it interesting that they stayed with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_02 when the current version is: Java Plug-in 1.4.2_05.

Nearly a year ago (10/2003), the release version was Java Plug-in 1.4.2_02.
