Anyone linux users tried installing the NS 7.2 toolbar on Linux by installing the XPI @ ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/en ... urrent.xpi and seeing what happens?

I've given it a try, and here's the results . . .

A closer look at the browser window . . .

It (sort of) nearly works. You get the Search field, but none of the proprietary features.

Has anyone tried installing the Netscape Toolbar onto a copy of Mozilla App-Suite 1.7.2?

Tried it on OSX. Shows the same, but does not even work. :(

What do you mean it doesn't work?

(Hint: The JSlib XPI isn't there for decoration...)

As for xft: We dropped support for GTK1/xft builds before 1.7 (I thought that was supposed to be dropped after 1.7?), so there would be major hackery required to get an xft Netscape 7.2.

error message #623

Postby dogmom » Fri 20 Aug, 2004 8:30 am

I am getting this error message sometimes
Cannot load dialog
Error 623: the system could not find the phone book entry for this connection.

Other than that 7.2 seems cool!
(still waiting for the disc to come but thanks to new DSL it only took me 2 minutes to download the whole thing!)

error 623

Postby dogmom » Fri 20 Aug, 2004 9:02 am

i am not sure it is a 7.2 error . I have new DSL and am still trying to work out the kinks.. If i use the ZA firewall and then try and open it and re-surf, error message comes up , almost like a "page not found" message. Also have norton AV (which I am geting ready to dump in favor of anything else) so I am not sure what the cause is.
it is just something I have never seen before. If I click OK, it goes away, and the page either opens or not.
running XP on an HP 1 yr.old puter (forget the specifics) AMD processor
(never saw this message in 4.0 or 7.0)
:?
thanx!

The absolute latest ZA may have fixed this, but when ZA 5 came out it didn't play well with Norton. At all.

ZA

Postby dogmom » Fri 20 Aug, 2004 3:34 pm

nah, I am using ZA 4.5.
I uninstalled 5.0 as soon as I could.
Am not anxious to try and upgrade ZA at this time!

HI all,

Downloaded 7.2 yesterday and it works fine! I've been using Netscape since my college days and will keep on support Netscape/Mozilla/etc for as long as they are around!! :)

While I don't notice a great different between 7.0/7.1 and 7.2, I did notice a few things do seem to work better:

I write logs on Xanga and previous to 7.2, I could not edit in Rich Text mode (which is ok, I use the plain text mode anyway). However, with 7.2, the Rich Text mode now works. :)

I noticed a few other cosmetic things on websites that now seem to work too. Did 7.2 get upgraded to better work with some of the Microsoft standards or is it just general web standards that N7.2 is now more compatible with?

In all cases, N7.2 works well with what I do. :)

Netscape 7.x has always followed proper W3C web standards quite well. Any support for so
called "Microsoft standards" would really be considered a downgrade rather than an upgrade.

Netscape 7.2 does not draw horizontal scroll bars properly on my mac. The arrows on each end do not appear, just an empty blue box. The scrollbar appears but there is no pattern on it (ie. the three lines). The problem only occurs when i am using the modern theme.Has anyone else had this problem? I was wondering if it is a bug or if it may have something to do with the fact that i have updated from netscape 7.1 and kept my existing profile.

Thanks, Ben

I've also noticed this, and I find it irritating. Does someone know how to fix this?
