I've also noticed this, and I find it irritating. Does someone know how to fix this?

That also happens to me with Netscape 7.2, but strangely not with Mozilla 1.7.2.

I was wondering if it is a bug or if it may have something to do with the fact that i have updated from netscape 7.1 and kept my existing profile.

Thanks, Ben

that happens sometimes in Firefox, so I suggest you try another theme restart NS use Modern again, restart.

I tried changing to the classic theme, which works fine, then change back to modern, no joy, the scrollbar still draws funny. Haven't downloaded any other themes.

Thanks anyway!

7.2 mail

Postby vipergg » Sun 22 Aug, 2004 9:29 pm

Anyone else notice this , when you delete mail out of the inbox it does not put the counter next to the trash bin like you see when download your mail to your inbox. I believe it used to in previous versions .

There has to be something that one can do to correct this. Perhaps a setting I could add to about:config? Anybody?

Thanks for reporting. I've just verified as well. In my fresh copy of Windows 2000 (under the lovely Virtual PC, of course), it is as you described.
(In OS X, the address bar would be automatically focused.)

I have a workaround.

In Windows :win: use [tt]Ctrl[/tt] + [tt]Shift[/tt] + [tt]L[/tt] and change the Open in to New Navigator tab. So you don't need to click the "New tab" then click the address bar.

Problem Installing Netscape 7.2 Base Version

Postby Roy » Wed 25 Aug, 2004 9:29 am

When I attempt to install the Netscape 7.2 Base version, I get an alert box with the message, "The file/content/SidebarPanel.xul cannot be found. Please check the location and try again. Is something missing in the install file, NSSetup-Base.exe (11, 825 KB), downloaded from the Netscape website?

I am installing this on a "clean" system. I have tried it three times on two different computer with the same result. I even downloaded the install file again with the same result.

P.S. You said you get the error when you "attempt to install" Netscape 7.2 BASE install (browser only) on a clean system. Are you saying that the installation fails, or does it finish, but you are unable to start Netscape? Are you reusing an old profile from a version of Netscape that included mail/news/aim? Just wondering.

Well, I've fixed the problem, and I apologize for not trying this sooner. This problem, as well as many others I've noticed, all seem to have stemmed from using a Netscape 7.1 profile. I created a new profile, moved my mail and bookmarks over, and everything works fine.

How do you fix that issue?
Mine was a fresh copy of Netscape 7.2 with no previous version of Netscape or Mozilla profiles at all.

I also created a new profile with a clean install Netscape 7.2, and that didn't seem to correct the problem either.

The installation does not fail nor does it impact the running of Netscape 7.2. It displays an alert box near the end of the install that can be closed. I have removed the old install, the Mozilla folder, and the Netscape folder.

That's strange. I was having other problems as well as the address bar not being focused, the biggest among them was the incredibly slow browsing I experienced. I would scroll down a page (any page) with the scroll button on my mouse, and frequently the browser would just freeze. Several seconds later, the page would move down several lines all at once.

This got to be so irritating that I backed up my bookmarks and mail folders, used Profile Manager to create a new profile, and then deleted my old profile entirely. Although I had to configure all of my preferences all over again, this fixed the slow browsing problem, and as a bonus, fixed the problem with the address bar not being focused when the "New Tab" button was pushed. It now is focused every time I click "New Tab," don't ask me why.

Also, I have confirmed a clean install on a Windows NT 4.0 (no service packs installed) machine also works without the aforementioned problems. And when I uninstalled Netscape 7.1 from my Windows ME partition, deleted the folder tree under C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla, and installed Netscape 7.2, I was first presented with the Profile Manager. I created a new profile, deleted the default one, and configured my preferences. It also doesn't have either of the problems previously mentioned.

Missing SidebarPanel.xul Message

Postby Roy » Fri 27 Aug, 2004 7:32 am

The missing SidebarPanel.xul message is displayed when installing the BASE version of Netscape 7.2 which does not include the "Component Instant Messenger" (NIM.xpi) or when creating a custom install and not including it.

The missing file is located in the AIM.JAR in the NIM.XPI file.
