Netscape 7 automatically launches

Postby VTXRetro » Thu 12 Dec, 2002 8:40 pm

I'm running NS-7 and when I exit out completely, I come back to my computer sometime later and it has re-launched without me. What gives? I have a cable connection so technically I'm always logged on. By the way, I downloaded the 31 meg NS-7.01 file and it took 3 min 38 sec. Didn't see any smoke coming out of the modem either...

I believe it is bugs.

Since I found quick launch will cost about 7 Mb Ram, I disable it immediately. And also, I think NS 7 now start much quicker than before, There is no need to use quick launch.

Our friend Orizng may be right. I have had problems with the Quick launch, but nothing like you describe. maybe Quick launch gets excited at your blazing speed! Downloads are as fast as the site, and how crowded the download sites are. Some are consistently good. The Sillydog standalone took 1min 1sec, and it is about 10MB.

I may have found the problem. Netscape Mail Notification was still enabled from Communicator 4.7 which I still have installed. Additionally, it was set to launch the browser instead of Messenger. I disabled it and will see if it works.

Let us know what you find. Mail notify from 4.7 should be on, and it should affect 7.0 in any way. And whatever is launched should not cause that problem either. That has to do with starting up. I never thought of disabling everything, something should start when you click on the icon.
So, you do not have Quick Launch enabled?

Jury is still out on this thing. Since my keyboard has Rapid Access keys, I configured one of them for NS-7. So I quickly disabled Quick Launch. I have a cable connection so I can get to my start page in about 3 seconds, same as Quick Launch. As for the automatic launch of Netscape, it's still there. Maybe its gremlins. Will keep you posted.

No success. Netscape stilll launches on its own. I can exit out completely and then, arbitrarily, right out of the blue, it'll startup. I've turned off Quick Start, AIM auto launch and Mail Notification (from Communicator 4.7). I've looked at the Task Scheduler, nothing. I'm clueless. I've looked at the active task list. Nothing looks suspicious. Anybody have any thoughts?
