Sky Pilot Classic (beta) Theme

Postby Alice » Sat 23 Apr, 2005 5:31 pm

There's a new version available, which I just installed. It's quite an improvement over the default Netscape "Comet" theme.

I've uploaded a new version of the theme which mostly includes minor polish changes. As a reminder, the theme for this browser is located here:

http://www.projectit.com/freestuff.html#skypilotnb

and will only be seen if one is viewing that link using the Netscape Browser. Alternatively, here's a direct link:

http://skypilot.projectit.com/skypilotnb096.jar

however, this link isn't guaranteed to be the most current version nor even always to be there.

Either way, to install, first download the theme file to your desktop, then open the Theme Manager (Tools > Themes), then dragNdrop the theme jar file to the left side pane of the TM dialog. It should automatically install.

flvprn, I'm not sure why your friend cannot access the theme file as explained above? Also, for Firefox derrived themes, the only approved format is the JAR format and not the XPI format.

it looks better than the default comet theme, but i still think it looks ugly (while comet looked like a toy). I might attempt to switch if anyone creates a "Modern", "Qute" or "Winstripe" theme for ns8

Sky Pilot Classic Theme is quite nice, but I still prefer the new Netscape theme.

The whole entire new browser is incredibly ugly. The theme is slow and unusable and especially very cluttered. I think the designer was blind, I'll stick with Firefox, this is total junk.

It took me a while to get used to NS8 beta. I don't know which theme you referred to, or how it is slow. I found out that you can make it as good or as bad as you want it. It is funny that the Comet theme had, originally, placed the Theme items to the right, and left it that way. But, I put the same item to the left, as it is usually the case, and I have been brainwashed in thinking that the right side is better.
As for the clutter, you can unclutter it from the Customize button. My FF1.03 is more cluttered, by choice, I must add, with five toolbars

Okay, well I think if a nice looking theme like firefox default or qute worked with this, it would be okay. Is there any good themes for it? I just think this default one is so ugly.

In my opinion, since this browser is still in beta, and, a final version may never come out, does it really matter if a theme is ugly, or the menu bar was in a strange location? I am pretty positive that once a final version comes out more themes and extentions will become available.
The ugliness of a theme is important only if one spends a lot of time meditating, and looking at it. As for me, it makes no difference. but I know that these things are important to others.
Gee, I did not even know that I had the Walnut theme for Firefox!

Do you honestly believe that a final version of this browser will actually see the light of day? There's not been even a hint of anything since the second beta version and that his a couple of months ago. I finally threw in the towel and got used to FF/TB. At this point I can't even imagine making yet another switch. What would be the purpose? :?

A "final" version has been announced to Netscape ISP members for release at the end of May; i.e., they are taking orders for the CD and Documentation manual now.

Since I am currently involved with beta testing this product, this "news" was rather surprising since they have only had ONE official released beta version out there for testing.

Hopefully they will have at least one more beta version for testing prior to the delivery version.

Postby PW » Thu 05 May, 2005 8:35 am

On the site https://www.netscapestore.com , I personally ordered the bundle with the Guidebook and also one of those mugs, black mousepad and white Netscape T-shirt. I will be proud to wear a Netscape shirt, althoug I would more love to have one from the goold old days.

Thanks for letting us know.

Based on current Beta, I think they need some more work on it.

Just announced a new theme for Netscape 8 beta; Modern Modoki.

If you are looking for a Modern-like theme, have a try this.

Two comments: 1.The Modern Modoki theme is excellent
2. NS8, definitely needs more work. They have to figure out a simple way to bring it up to par with Firefox, in Security, or it will be useless.
And, their Tab browsing controls are huge and, in some cases appalling.

Another problem is it would be nice for them to release extensions.

Third party ones that I can get to work, such as Adblock, only work in the gecko-side of the engine. It seems when you browse with IE any Firefox addon is ignored.
