Netscape/AOL web mail. help!

Postby mad » Sat 21 Oct, 2006 7:17 pm

Hi, I tried to check my Netscape account using the Netscape mail software that comes with the Browser 7.0, I have used the smtp "smtp.aim.com" server, port 587 for the outgoing messages, and "imap.aim.com", port 143 for incoming messages, but I still unable to connect, could someone help?

If you had a valid @netscape.net accpount, you should be able to set up the account, as IMAP, in the mail part of your browser, or or any other mail client, either @aim.com, or @aol.com.
By valid, I mean that you were checking netscape.net within 30 days prior due discontinuing that server (I believe on 8-25-06). I am not sure how long this would work several weeks after that date. If no joy, go to http://www.aim.com, and sign up for an account, with with the same username as before. I never missed a step, and I am mail with the same username as a Netscape.net at both @aim.com, and @aol.com.

I've tried to set up an AOL, but it says that is already used!! :( , I guess is my own account, also I've tried to send me an e-mail as a test with domain "@aol.com" and "@aim.com", but I never recieved the e-mail, do you think that someday I'll not be able to use the domain netscape.net for my e-mail??

This is what they say in FAQ:

Do I keep my same Netscape e-mail address?
Yes. In fact, your e-mail address is yours for life***. Even if you choose not to use it for a while, the address will remain yours to reactivate at any time. So, you can continue to send and receive e-mail at your current Netscape e-mail address.

There are more links at the site also.

I did thorough tests, and, found out that I can send mail to myaddress@netscape.net, but, since the server no longer exists, it it is forwarded to myaddress@aim.com. I don't know what happens if you have only @netscape.net set up. I have set up accounts @aim.com, nearly one year ago, so the transfer was seamless. I was under the impression that the @netscape.net account was not used for 30 days or more, none of the old mail would be saved.
But, indeed, the username is yours to keep, be it with @aim.com, or @aol.com.
As for sending, smtp.aim.com or smtp.aol.com, port 587 do work, although, I, also, can use my ISP SMTP (it is up to your your ISP).
I have no idea why anyone has problems, provided the same username and password of @netscape.net are used. As for the sending test, it should be done to an address such that your ISP.
