I ran Check for Updates in Tool|Options and got nothing.

I got the update, by going to Downloads in netscape.com. But how come the check in Tools|Options did not work? It worked fine for 8.0.3.1.

There's no need to use the latest version available, may that be bleeding-edge version.

I noticed something interesting about the disk space requirement:

Netscape pages say "35 MB hard drive space" (at time of posting).


But in my installation, it asked for 50.5MB disk space.
(I removed Netscape 8.0.3.1 from Windows 2000 Pro SP 4 under Virtual PC 7.0.2.)



Also, Netscape 8.0.3.1 used Nullsoft Install system v2.07, now it's v2.08 for the installer software.

It seems that we have not so much end-user based (or not end-user ) feedback about new 8.0.3.3, noticed after version 8.0.3.1 release too.

People, the number after Gecko/ is the date when Netscape was compiled!!! It is NOT the Gecko release date! The Gecko revision is the number after rv: (in this case 1.7.5), which means that Netscape is using a patched Firefox 1.0 Gecko code! It is NOT using Gecko from 29th July!

That's correct. If someone compiled the code of Netscape 6.0 from 2000 today, the resulting Gecko build ID would be "20050823" even though the browser and therefore Gecko codebase are in fact nearly five years old.

I think it's about time this thread was downgraded from Announcement to normal status, especially
since Netscape have not yet bothered to apply the patches for the recent security vulnerabilities.

I went to the Netscape forum a few days ago and asked the question of why Netscape has not issued patches for the recent security vulnerabilities. The answer I got from the forum administrator was what vulnerabilities are these, could you be more specific. I listed these vulnerabilities to him. Now I am not a computer wiz, but i do know about the security issues which affected Firefox,Mozilla,and Netscape browsers.I asked why Netscape has not patched there browser, but Firefox and Mozilla issued quick patches. He stated it will be updated in the next version,but they are not serious security threats. My question is Netscape is based on Firefox. Firefox took this very ser. and issued fast patches. Netscape is playing the security issue down WHY.

The Netscape Browser forum admin is wrong to play down these vulnerabilities, given the
fact that they were/are quite serious vulnerabilities, even for the Gecko based browsers.

Actually, the one who said that these vulnerabilities were not important was not the NSB forum admin, but Jay Garcia.

The way he has to answer for everyone,and downplays any Netscape problems I assumed he was the Netscape forum admin. If i am not mistaken he did say he worked for Netscape. Because when a issue comes up he checks with his supervisor.
