It's November 30th, and there's a "DOWNLOAD NOW!" link for testers on the Netscape Browser Review page.

Has anyone tried the browser prototype yet? I'm not able to do so since I'm still using Windows 95.

It use both IE and Gecko engine, u can set a main one through tools-options, and also u can temperorily switch for each tab by clicking the traffic light of each tab.
It has a dynamic feeds like news sticker(I turn it off, pretty annoying).

I got it. It looked smooth until I tried to do two things at once, and the message which I wrote in part went bye-bye.No choice of Search Engine noticed.
This thing, if indeed based on Firefox, is on steroids. The download was 11 MB.

I really like the new Netscape a lot. I do miss the AIM/ICQ client though which I am sure will appear soon.

Does anybody know if we had to take a "vow of silence" on talking about the browser outside the forums?

First impressions . . . the GUI is atrocious, just as I feared. The navigation buttons look nasty and childish,
and having the animated "N" logo in the top left is off putting. Placing the menubar at the top right of the
window, instead of on the left, just under the titlebar (where it should be) is just plain stoopid!

All the extra buttons on the toolbars, displayed by default, such as news and weathers, amongst other
things, just bloats the GUI beyond reason. There is no excuse for most of that. It's just unnecessary.

I've not looked at the System Requirements for this thing yet, but if it says it requires IE, then that
really defeats the purpose of Netscape being an alternative to Microsoft's ubiquitous browser.

Here's a screengrab of this fugly monstrosity, with the default toolbar layout . . .

Image

Utterly hideous!

Well then, based upon my impressions so far, and despite the fact that it's built upon Firefox, this has
got to be the worst Netscape branded browser since 6.0 was released four years ago. It's horrible.

This thing need a hell of a lot of remedial work, before it is finalized. If this new Netscape browser
isn't drastically improved before it goes gold, then I'm sticking with Netscape 7.2 and Firefox 1.0.

SeaMonkey = Swiss Army Knife: It's versatile, reliable, and contains useful tools.
Windows Internet Explorer = Old Swiss Cheese: Full of holes, and it stinks!

only one complaint so far: ugly interface, even i can do alot better than this version.

I dont think it will require IE to run since it use FX as default core. but i have to say, a bad interface will push ppl away for sure.

The new Netscape browser creates a unique profile directory so there's no conflict with existing Mozilla or Firefox profiles :)

(On WinXP)
[tt]C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\Netscape\NSAE\Profiles\default.xxx[/tt]
