Netscape Communicator 4.8 keeps crashing when starting up...

I use Netscape Communicator 4.8 (on Mac OS 9.2 ) for my email.
I can open 4.8 but it only stays open for a few seconds, then crashes - and - I can't go into the Preferences and check them.

After crash I get message:
The application "Netscape Communicator" has unexpectedly quit. because an error of type 2 occured

I have re-installed 4.8 with same results - Any suggestions. thanx

A Google search for [ error "type 2" netscape ] resulted in over 63000 hits.
The first one I got is this. Note that this page does apply to Macs. Basically, at least one .snm file in the mail folder is corrupt. Delete all of the snm files (they will be rebuilt when Netscape Mail comes up again).
