Netscape crashing in XP

Postby Hera » Tue 03 Dec, 2002 3:20 pm

Hi,
I'm using version 4.79. I have a new laptop with Windows XP and netscape keeps crashing. Anyone else having this problem? Would upgrading to version 7 stop it happening?
Thanks,
Hera

Netscape 4.79 crashing in XP

Hera,
can you describe how Netscape 4.79 crashes in Windows XP. I have Netscape 4.79 (with Calendar) in Windows XP Pro (SP1) in desktop and laptop, and it does crash as all Communicators, but not very frequently.

Is it Java causing crashing? If you do not surf pages requiring Java (Applet), you can try to disable it.

Hera,
to add to Antony's reply. Take note of what you do when it crashes. And, if the crash is on exiting Netscape, the answer is yes, almost all the time. I think that it an old problem, which has resurfaced. There are two errors in a row, at RPCRT.dll and PN3260.dll or something close to it. I do not pay any attention anymore. It was not there with 4.78, but, it started with 4.79, and then 4.8.
7.0 is not an upgrade to 4.79, but rather a rewrite of the program. You should not have the same problem, but it depends on what the problem is.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for the responses.
As requested I have been observing what I am doing when Netscape crashes.

Crashes happen when I am composing a reply or forwarding an email - so far when I try to use the address book to insert an address (though not if I merely look at an address) or if I try and copy and paste some text into an email.

And there is an additional problem - I am unable to copy any text from the web into either emails or into word docs.
