Netscape version on Powerbook 160

Postby frumpo » Mon 28 Oct, 2002 6:47 am

Is it possible to run Netscape 3 on a Mac Powerbook 160 10/40? (the system requirements seem to be missing from the Version Guide).

I am currently running Netscape 2 but most websites cause it to crash.

These are the system regs, according to the Navigator 3.04 Mac Release Notes:

Macintosh (68K or PPC): Macintosh with System 7.0 or later, QuickTime 2.1, and Sound Manager 3.2

(the requirements are requirements on how to use Quicktime in the browser.)

Have you also tried Opera 5.0 (if you are PPC) or Navigator standalone 4.08 (both 68k & PPC)?

Thanks very much.

It's a 68K running 7.01 and only has a 40Mb hard disk so I don't think I'll ever be able to upgrade the o/s as I suppose it will require more that the few Mb that I have remaining.

Therefore, I guess 3.04 is the latest version that I'll be able to use.

So you are 68k and have 40MB of HDD space? I guess that rules out later versions of Netscape and Opera 5.0. I guess that NS 3 is your best choice. However, if your connection is slow, MacLynx is a good choice. It's a small text only browser.

Netscape version for Powerbook 160

Postby TeeDee » Thu 26 Dec, 2002 4:45 pm

I'm also trying to set up a browser on a Powerbook 160, running OS 7.1. I put Netscape 3.0.1 on the hard drive, but the system takes up 1.6M. This leaves about 6.4M. I tried to run Navigator, but I got a message saying that 7M is required.

You say that it should run. What's up?
