You haven't given us much info . . . can the win2k machine ping your other computer? Are you using a crossover cable, or a switch/hub?

win2k networking

Postby shabcomputing » Mon 07 Jul, 2003 3:53 pm

Thanks a lot for your help, sorry I get back to you so late.
I have 3 pc in a LAN connecting with a 5 port hub they where fine and sharing all the drives and resources were ok until I installed the SP4 last week. Now 2 of the can see eachother no problem one is acting up. The one which act up has the internet sharing option that means others allow to use this one internet connection, but now it does not let them to use this connection. I did ping and I can not get any reply back from the others but sometimes I can just in one of the them from the one with the probem( the one with internet connection). when I go to networknigborhood explor I can see just they are all see each other but when I click on the one with internet connection it says that this server is not responding or it is not avilable at this time. In the meanwhile that pc can see the other 2 in the same way and can have access to all resources of the other 2 as well.
Please help me out that a lot for your help;
Best regards;

I have a similar problem that I think is related to SP4 as well. I upgraded all of my computers on the network and now one of them can't access the others. It sees them but if you try to access them in any way, it fails. Other computer can access that one with no problems so it isn't a bad NIC or anything...

I found Microsofts ICS very unreliable. I have used for ICS the RASPPPOE software, but momenterally I prefer Proxy+ server. SP4 has inproved security policies and I think there the problem lies. Check the identification for each computer on network, besause the empty boxes does not work andymore (I think).

I have downloaded SP4IT (132MB), installed it and everything is working fine at the moment. It looks that Windows are running faster.

I will dig into this on monday and post back here.
