New look iMacs on the way . . . ?

Apple to ship next-gen iMac in September
By Tony Smith

Apple has announced an major iMac update... sort of. It's said when
they will arrive - September - but nothing more about them than that.

The company's US and UK online AppleStores both today state that
they are no longer taking iMac orders pending the upcoming
announcement of a new line of consumer desktops which
will become available in September.

"We planned to have our next generation iMac ready by the time the
inventory of current iMacs runs out in the next few weeks," the site
confesses, "but our planning was obviously less than perfect."

Rumours that Apple is preparing a new iMac, possibly a G5 model,
surfaced a few weeks ago, with the inevitable assumption being
made that CEO Steve Jobs would unveil the machine at the
company's WWDC which took place this week.

So, the iMac maybe about to be relaunched again. And as far as I can see, it appears
that Apple are following an "every three years" pattern. The original CRT iMacs were
introduced in 1998, and the redesigned flat panel display iMacs came along in 2001.

Now in 2004, it seems as though the iMac is about to get another radical redesign.

So, the iMacs will probably get smaller and thinner again? Wow, I might be able to fit one where I have my ancient Win98/100MHz machine, guaranteed that I can come up with some $3000USD...

According to Apple delays new iMac (c|net, News.com, 1 July 2004), the flat-panel was released in January 2002.

The webmaster of AppleTalk AU mocked up following design for the upcoming iMac.

Wait a minute, is that a monitor or an iMac?

Just wait for the new iMacs.

It is reported (or rumoured) that current orders of iMacs were giving an offer of PowerBook 17" (no additional charge to the customers).
A similar replacement that Apple emailed their customers of iPod mini (giving them a choice of iPod 15GB, no additional charge) when they couldn't meed the demand.
