Apple® today unveiled a completely redesigned Mac® mini, featuring up to twice the graphics performance, a new HDMI port and a new SD card slot, all in an amazingly compact aluminum enclosure. Mac mini is the world’s most energy efficient desktop and starting at just USD$699. The 'server class' version comes with Mac OS X Snow Leopard® Server is also available.

Smaller and more powerful and even more energy efficient.

Created with the unibody construction process pioneered by Apple, the new Mac mini features a compact aluminum enclosure just 7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches thin. A new integrated power supply eliminates the need for an external power adapter, reducing overall system volume by 20 percent and keeping cable clutter to a minimum. A removable panel underneath provides quick access for memory expansion. Mac mini is incredibly versatile, effortlessly connecting to existing peripherals such as mice, keyboards and digital displays, while the new HDMI output connects Mac mini to an HDTV and the new SD card slot enables easy transfer of photos and videos from a digital camera.

Though I'm happy to see that Apple has added an SD card reader to the Mini, it seems like the back is an odd place to put it. This would be the same design consideration as putting the CD drive in front, so that it's easily accessible when the unit is on a desk.

Well, I thought you hated the SD format. It seems like the SD is the new de facto format to go, all new Sony cameras are SD compatible in their 2010 models, iPad has camera kit that supports SD card, iMac, MacBook now has SD card reader built-in, ... As for me, I am switching to SD format as well.

Well, for a tiny device, packed with so much power including HDMI HDTV output direct out of box, and more in such energy-efficient and space-saving device... Now, I am tempted to get one as a poor man's in house server.

Yes, I know it's not Core i5 or i7, but overall feature and design wins my vote.

I'm really intrigued as to how this is going to do with over heating. Especially now that the power supply is inside the machine.

Wait and see, that was the main reason holding me from ordering one.

I believe Apple has figured out something about the heating issue. The first generation of Time Capsule suffered the overheating problem after 18 months (the power brick is inside the Time Capsule). Apple has replaced them free of charge. It has been reported that 2nd generation of Time Capsule has improvements on heat dissipation issue.

Hmm, if they are good in that aspect, I may start to save up for one. If not I'll just save up for a 15" MacBook Pro.
