Is the profile folder which Dave referred to. You want to remove, first, it before reinstalling SM2 because its presence is preventing the launching of the Migration Assistant.
Then, uninstall SM1.1.18, the program, in Program Files and delete any files/folder which were not removed. You don't have to remove its profile folder.

It isn't essential to uninstall the SeaMonkey 1.x program files before installing SM 2.x, although you can do so if you wish.

Then reinstall SM2, and you should be asked if you want to use the Migration Assistant.
If you reinstall SM2 first, you will be back to square one.

Fulvio is quite correct, remove the SM 2.x profile before reinstalling SM 2.x!

Regards,

Dave.

I think I have tried to slice this bread in every directions and still cant butter it

Dave, I have followed your suggestions. I renamed the \profiles\ folder to \Profilesold\

went back and reinstalled SM2 and it installed but did not give me the option to import files. once I rebooted the computer and tried to launch SM I got the following message:

Sea monkey is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing seamonkey process, or restart yous system.

I rebooted again and got the same error.

I opened my Task Manager to see if sea monkey was running. It was not running.

I then tried to run them profile manager -P program and got the error message again.

It seems now that my system thinks SM 2 is running but my task manager says it is not running. After removing SM2 and installing SM V1.1.18, I'm up and running and I can see seamonkey.exe running in my task manager.

Have a question: Why cant I just copy the profile files from V1.1.18 and move them to the SM2 profile folder. I noticed that the file ext is different but I could rename it.

Think it would work?

This sounds like you have SM 1.x Quick Launch running. If it is, there should be a SM icon in the systray (bottom right of the screen), right click on it to disable it. Unfortunately, SM 2.x will have created another new profile which will have to be deleted/renamed before you try reinstalling SM 2.x again! If it isn't SM 1.x Quick Launch, then it may be that the profile has become locked, see this article for an explanation:

Profile in use

It isn't quite as simple as that! See this article for an explanation:

Transferring data to a new profile - SeaMonkey.

You can do that, though it shouldn't be necessary. I would continue trying to get the import wizard to appear before attempting to transfer your data manually.

Dave.

I really appreciate all your help, but its still a NO-GO :sadr:

My last attempt was to delete both SM versions. Reboot compute, install SM V2, launch and got the SM already running error. I did not select the quick launch and never have on either version.

I think I will go walk away and go have a drink :P

Latter...

I'm sorry to hear that.

The 'Quick Launch' option has been removed from SM 2.x. Try disabling 'Hide Inactive Icons' in the Task Bar properties, in case you're not seeing the small SM 'Quick Launch' icon in the systray. If it's not there, then check:

Profile In Use

I suppose you are definitely renaming the SM 2.x profile folder and not the SM 1.x profile folder? Perhaps you could give the full path to the folder you renamed, just in case?! ;)

I think I will go walk away and go have a drink :P

I don't blame you! ;) It's curious why some people have problems going from SM 1.x to SM 2.x where others (myself included) don't have any problems at all!?

It looks as though you may have to migrate your data manually if you still can't get the automatic import of it to work.

Dave.

Although I had set up 1.x and 2.x separately, so I never saw any Migration Assistant, I ended migrate my data manually, when I decided to give up on 1.x. Then, I deleted its profile.
I did not like to go through all the work, as I use so many accounts, but it was worth the effort. And, I did this over a couple of weeks time.

Fulvio,

Thanks for the info..

I guess I will have to do the same...

When you transfered the files over (I assume you did a copy paste from folder to folder) did you need to reformat the files or were then in proper format or rename for V 2.X ?
I also noted that V1.1.18 has a IMPORT function that has mail, bookmarks, and settings. Did you use that function?

Have you checked the items I mentioned in my last post? If so, what did you find? Presumably, you are planning on manually migrating your data? If so, check this article:

Profile migration - SeaMonkey

I hope it helps.

Larry,
I did not. You should follow Dave's instructions, and do a manual migration. I have had poor experiences with the Import function, which had left me hanging, more than once.

Have you yet had any luck getting SeaMonkey 2.x to run or with migrating your data?

No I have not even tried. I have been busy making elect products for a upcoming show. Too busy looking through a magnifying glass and a soldering iron in one hand and components in the other....

I did read on another forum that someone tried SM 2.1.2 Beta and said he had good results with it. I was thinking of maybe trying the newer version to see if it installs differently.

OK!

I think that you will still have the same problems, because you will still be going from SeaMonkey 1 to SeaMonkey 2. Once you have SM 2.0.x successfully installed, then going to SM 2.1 Beta 2 (that is the latest Beta version according to the SeaMonkey website) should be straightforward.
