No Address showing in URL bar

Postby Dennis L. » Fri 18 Oct, 2002 6:42 pm

Something I started to notice the last couple of days. No displayed address in the URL bar. This occurs infrequently with no noticeable pattern. Moving the cursor over the bar and right clicking brings correct dialog box, but options greyed out. As I'm typing this post, no address displayed. Opened a new window, loaded this site, displayed address. Ask the better half if this has occured with N7 Prv. on her w95 computer. She has noticed the same. Any suggestions?

Do you mean the Location filed (top, the place where you type in the URL) OR the status bar (bottom).

However I don't exactly what caused that.

Are you experiencing strange QuickLaunch behaviour (i.e. if you open Mozilla really quickly after it closes does it act strange)? If so, this shouldn't be in 7.0 but it's a known bug that was fixed ages ago.

Hi Guys,

TOP... the location field.

Do not use Quick Launch. File update concerns. New computer loads fast without Quick Launch.

In a updating post.. see..

the following discussion took place....

'Navigator" and "Mail & Newsgroup", the resulting open "Home Page" does not display a URL in the address bar. Any bookmark click or link from this page will continue this URL nondisplay. If I Ctrl N and open a new page, the URL is displayed. I have recreated this situation numerious times by changing the settings and closing and reopening N7. I do NOT use Quick Start. Is anyone else having this problem?

Fulvio wrote:Have you changed the Theme, by any chance. When, I tried the Linux-like(forgot the name) Theme caused default to "about blank". I will check your way with my present, stable, Theme.

Dennis wrote:I use "Modern" theme. Have not used "Classic" or downloaded any other themes. I can also recreate the display problem when I choose "Last Page Visted" instead of "Home Page". The rule appears to be both "Navigator" and "Mail & Newsgroup" load on open.
Oh... one more condition... It appears when "Mail" opens first causes the problem. For one open / close cycle based on "deleting" the nondisplay URL page, having a proper URL page open on close, then reopen N7, Home Page loads first and WILL display URL in address bar. But when you close N7, It will reopen mail first and cause the second window (Home page or last visted) to nondisplay the URL.

Fulvio wrote:I remember testing this in 4.7x, and both Mail and the Navigator came up, but Navigator came up first, so I did not see any point in doing this, because I can click on the envelope, and I am in Mail. But, when I checked both Navigator and Mail. only Navigator showed up, near the Start button. I have included my profile to the path, in Properties, so I do not have to select the Profile when I start. I don't know why you have the opposite behavior from mine.

END QUOTE OF PREVIOUS POST'S

The fix was easy... Stopped using option "OPEN" mail on program load. Was not what I wanted... but one extra click to open mail is no big deal. Still wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem?

Have you been sharing the same Profile, all along. I am a bit suspicious because you say that this has happened before with NS7 beta. Problems like those that you describe are, generally, not carried along different installation, but, are surely with one corrupt profile. Create a new one.
