no more "Metro" on Windows 8!

Postby Antony » Fri 03 Aug, 2012 12:21 pm

According to Ars Technica report, the familiar term “Metro” on describing the new tile looking interface which was central to Windows 8 (and also in Windows Phone) is ending.

For the time being, it will be referred to as “Windows 8-style UI” when talking about Windows 8 applications, and “New User Interface” when talking about the company's full product line-up.

The reason is said to be from a threat from a German retailer Metro AG.

What a silly word game MS is forced to play because of that German outfit. Most folks are going to continue to call it what it is: Metro.

I believe that Win 8 will be avoided by the commercial and industrial sectors of the user base.

I know it will be avoided in my digiteria.

It should have been limited to tablets and cell phones, named "Microsoft Mobility", and Win 7 should be followed at the appropriate time by a real Win 8, a real computer O/S, not an O/S for computerized devices.

MS really hasn't much to worry about. It will continue to see Windows 7 to many companies and Windows 8 will be successful among private consumers. Geeze... for $40 a person would have to be a fool to disregard it. Besides... IE 10 will be far more effective as a browser than IE 9. My step son already has told us our copy will be on the way as soon as it's released.
