NS 4.8 locks up when sending e-mail

Postby ronm » Fri 21 Jan, 2005 11:10 am

Have had this problems several times and just wondered if there is a work around. Using NS 4.8 and WIN98SE.

Sometimes when I finish an e-mail and the the sending e-mail dialogue
box comes up it locks up. You can't close the box or get back to the e-mail composition window which is behind it on the screen. So at that point the only way I have found out of it, is to end the task (Netscape)which means I lose the e-mail and have to compose it all over again.

is there a way to at least get back to the e-mail so I can save it in the drafts folder or set it to send later?

Today was an especially long e-mail that I didn't really want to have to do over again. Again, this doesn't happen all the time but enough to make it a nuisance.

Any help would be appreciated.

There are a million reasons that it could freeze up on you. And I mean a million. Your best bet that won't take up lots of message space: highlight all the text of your e-mail with CTRL-A, then copy with CTRL-C before you send. That way, if it freezes (provided you don't need to restart your computer), just paste back with CTRL-V and re-send your message, and problem solved.

As for the freeze, there isn't any specific error message you get when it freezes, is there?

Pasting the copied info to your favorite text editor or word processor and, if desired, saving it as a file would be even safer. I used to do this when I was losing important post due to lock-ups at SillyDog.

I no longer use NS4.xx on my Win98 systems, so I can not address the cause, except to say that it should not be freezing up. I would speculate that it could be a connectivity problem with your ISP.
