NS 7.01 popup sound ?

Postby captjlddavis » Fri 13 Dec, 2002 1:20 am

Greetings to all.

Running win98 - NS 7.01 (compact) version - Just couldn't wait.......

Has anyone gotten the "play sound" function of popup notification to work ?

The "show icon" seems to work, but have tried to get sound - NO LUCK.

Any assistance appreciated.

You need to go to . . .
Edit - Preferences - Privacy & Security - Popup Window Controls . . .

Please ignore my partial message above, edited into a different color.

I pressed "Submit" when I meant to press "Preview" before I'd finished
my reply, which you can see in full, a little bit further down the page.

DJGM:

Thanks, but I think I've done everything correct, but still can't seem to get sound.

"You need to go to . . .

Went there -

Browsed to valid file - selected same.

following entry appears in prefs.js:

user_pref("privacy.popups.sound_url", "C:\\Mozila\\Space critical top.wav");

Still no sound. Have you got this to work in your distros ?

You need to go to . . .
Edit - Preferences - Privacy & Security - Popup Window Controls . . .

Click the radio button next to "Suppress Popups", and then the option to
select a sound for popup suppression, should no longer be greyed out.

From there you can click the Select button, and scour your
computer's hard drive for a sound you think is most suitable.
(Yes, this does work in my DJGM-i Distros of Netscape 7.01.)

As I have Windows XP running at the moment as my default OS, I've
selected to use the "pop" sound that usually accompanies those oh so
annoying nag balloons that appear above the XP system tray, to say
that disk space is running low, or to sign on to Windows Messenger.

(FYI: The sound file I use, is called "Windows XP Balloon.wav")

(BTW: I disabled Messenger in XP as soon as I found how to do so!)
