NS 7.01 Tool Bar Icons --- Is There a Way To Remove????

Postby Guest » Tue 24 Dec, 2002 8:15 pm

Just installed and configured the Stand-Alone Version of 7.01.

Very pleased with how everything worked out.

One thing I'd like to do is to do-away with the icons on the tool bar.
You kow the ones for.... reload, Stop. forward and back. I know on
previous versions this was an option, but I don't see any way to just
have the text without the space hogging, silly icons. Heck, I do know
how to read and don't need to rely on pictures (icons).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It's in the first tab in Preferences (Appearance).

Well, thanks for the try, but that's not the correct answer.

At least not on my install. The "Appearance" section of Preferences,
only has options for.... "Show Tool Tips" and "Show Web Site Icons"

The "Show Web Site Icons" choice is not what I'm trying to accomplish.

I'd like to do-away with the icons above the 'Back', 'Forward', 'Reload' and
'Stop' features on the Navigation Toolbar.

I figure that there must be a way and hopefully someone out there knows.

Any Other Ideas????

I guess Netscape doesn't have it. I do :)

It was a recent Mozilla checkin and required minor theme changes for that version, so I'm willing to bet that you can't. The next Netscape release will have it (but bear in mind that this is only applicable to certain themes, i.e. Modern will still only have buttons).

Well, thanks again. Since I posted this question, I searched all through
the xxxx.js files and wasn't able to see anything related to those silly
icons.

I'm using the "Classic Theme" Really disapointed that this is no longer an
option.

One other thing I find disapointing, is that I don't seem to see where one
can create a URL Shortcut and have it kept on the desktop. That's something
I've gotten very used to using.

Oh well....

Try this and see if it works for you.

Resize NS window (second button upper right corner) exposing Desktop.

Left click address/location bar as you would when dragging bookmark to toolbar.

Drag to exposed Desktop, release button.

Rename created shorcut to whatever you want.

I have not experimented with this very much as I try and keep Desktop pretty clean but it seems to work for me.

Let me know.

P.S. You may have to edit the shortcut properties if you have more than one profile.

captjlddavis....

Thanks Very Much!!!!
Once I figured out exactly where the xxxxx.css files were to be placed, I was able to eliminate the icons. The info provided in the URL you posted was a great help. Also, of help was the insructions contained in the following link: http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html

The icons disapeared as expected, but I was hoping for the toolbar to become narrower as it was in NS 4.7x

Thanks Again....

This works for me. Perhaps not as easily as it was in NS 4.7x (with the one extra step).

Afew more little tweaks, and I'll have NS7.01 about where I can live with it.
