NS7 mail files problem

Postby humpd » Sun 01 Dec, 2002 12:47 pm

I have what I think is an odd problem. When I (using my profile) am using NS7 browser I, on occasion, get the mail for my wife by going to the mail, file, "get messages for" option. My wife usually gets her mail by clicking on the "mail and newsgroups" icon on the desktop. What she found was that the mail I get for her when I am in the browser in my profile is not being saved in her folder, or at least the same folder (inbox) that she has when she uses HER profile in "mail and newsgroups". She found that there was mail in her folder that she never read when she went to her folder in mail when she was using Netscape's browser under my profile. My questions are: (1) does Netscape save mail in different folders depending upon what profile is being used in the browser? (2) If so, is there a way to correct this or avoid not knowing which folder your mail is in? and (3) Is there a way to get rid of the conflicting folders without deleting all of her saved mail? I am at a loss here.

Hi humpd,

This shouldn't be happening if you have created two unique profiles. If you're not sharing a Profile, and you have edited the Properties Sheet on your Netscape Desktop Icon to reflect the two unique Profiles, then there should be no conflicts or problems on received Mail.

Right click your Desktop Icons
In the Target Location add the following:
"C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Netscp.exe" -quiet -P profilename -mail -browser

-quiet = no Splash Screen
-P profilename = your profile name
- mail = the Mail & Newsgroups component
- browser = Navigator

Do this for both your and your wife's Profile, i.e. both Desktop Icons. Much less hassle this way.

(1) does Netscape save mail in different folders depending upon what profile is being used in the browser?

Yes

(2) If so, is there a way to correct this or avoid not knowing which folder your mail is in?

As described above

(3) Is there a way to get rid of the conflicting folders without deleting all of her saved mail?

With Netscape open
Create a new Mail Folder and drag and drop the messages your wife wants to save.
Delete the offending folders
You can also save Mail files as text.

HTH, and if not, please post back with questions.
