When I try to install Windows XP with the default NTFS file system my computer will freeze up after the install is complete, and the computer is up and running. I have a Compaq notebook with a 20GB hard drive that came loaded with XP Home. I did many reinstalls with no problem. My problem began when I started partioning my hard drive(I partitioned it in the XP install) so that I could run Linux. I always let the Linux distro set up the boot manager, which was usually Grub. Windows XP runs fine while installed with fat 32 file system, but now I want to set my notebook back up with Windows only with the NTFS file system and everytime I do a clean install it will just freeze up about once an hour. When I first started partioning my hard drive I continued to use the NTFS maybe that was my mistake. I am still somewhat new to partioning and am learning with trial and error.(That is when you really learn a lesson) It is not that big of a deal if I have to use the fat 32 file system I am just curious as to what is wrong and would prefer the NTFS. This is on a computer that I pretty much just play with and reinstall OS's about once a week. Does anyone know what could be causing this and how to fix it. Thanks, in advance.
