obsessed to keep connected with Facebook?

Postby Antony » Mon 15 Aug, 2011 11:00 am

In a survey's finding, 80% of teenagers sleep with their phones, and 50% of the teenager girls tucked their mobile phones under their pillows and set them to vibrate. All for the Facebook and SMS.

Teen girls are so desperate to keep in touch with friends they are sleeping with phones under their pillows.

The addiction to social networking is making students chronically tired and putting their education at risk, experts say, The Advertiser reported.

(...)

Chief executive Ross Bark said students were so obsessed with Facebook and SMS they were checking messages until very late.

I guess I must be old, I don't really sleep with my mobile phone, however, I do use my mobile phone as alarm clock (with a reasonable distance to the bed) to wake me up in the morning. (Also, this can translate to Antony is poor, he does not even own an alarm clock.)

Your extreme poverty never ceases to amaze me, Antony.

As for girls sleeping with their phones under their pillows, it's absurd and it also says something about our culture and the need for young people to feel connected... to belong... to have attention. It used to be in my day that we'd gather at the malt shop. Later generations gathered at the mall. Now they tend to gather in a virtual manner... at FB or texting one another, all day and all night long. Sort of sad really but it's their reality I guess. I just hope they're not putting their health at risk.

Thank you. I've been for years to tell Don that I am poor.

I sleep with my phone.

It's funny how the older generations look at this as something that's bad, not realizing that it's simply our evolution.

Cover it with a protective shield, John. Protect your gray matter. Now listen to your elders!

Because the wireless communication technology is still relatively new, many adverse effects would take years or decades to show up.
Us, the elders, simply do not adopt to and trust the new technology.

LOL... yeah... we simply do not trust the new technology. Well, that's not exactly true, John, but it's probably closer to the truth than I care to admit!

Look, John. There are two things going on here with your admission to sleeping with your mobile phone and here they are:

1. The facts are not yet in as to whether or not the radiation from these phones does any permanent damage to the brain. Maybe... maybe not. So, until definitive proof exists, you should err on the side of caution (i.e. DON'T SLEEP WITH THE PHONE NEAR YOUR HEAD).

2. You need your sleep. And sleeping with a cell phone is not really a prudent idea. So, don't do it. Put your phone on a table on the opposite side of your bedroom where it can charge overnight, not disturb your sleep and not present a possible danger to you.

Come on now... listen to your elders!

Honestly, both of my parents smoke everyday of my life, in our house, up until a year ago. I'm more likely to get cancer from that, then from my phone if you ask me.

And I know I need my sleep, but my phone is also my alarm, because the vibrate can wake me up without waking up the rest of the house.

I thought I was the poor guy without an actual alarm clock and had to resort to use the mobile phone for that function.

Well now, Antony, you can see that you are not the only poverty-stricken individual here at SillyDog 701. Evidently John is vying for the distinction of the forum's poorest member. LOL

As evidence I am worse off than Antony and John with their mobile-phone alarm clocks, I'd like to point out my Frankenclock from a couple years ago:

Well, actually Don is better off than John and I.

Like the rest of us, Don has a smart phone, and I believe it has alarm clock function.

Don has an alarm clock. I don't. John doesn't. Don is better off.

I don't know, Don. Antony's reasoning seems irrefutable.

I am no where near the poorest haha, I have multiple alarm clocks, but they annoy other members of my house.

I'm not rich either. Unlike Antony. And I don't care what you say, when you buy a $10,000 computer, you're rich.

Thank you. Then, I will take the honour of being the poorest.

iJohnE wrote:you buy a $10,000 computer

Well, that was what Don said. The Mac Pro itself did not cost US$10,000. Also, Apple overcharges Australians compared to lucky Americans.

Remember, I don't own a BMW or a 4WD, not even a car.
