The alarm clock was free from the trash, and is held together with tape and glue, and is from the early 80s. -> MUCH older than anything Antony would ever bother with, and not his style to modify and repair to ensure longevity.

Well, the current alarm clock is a Handspring Visor from the late 90s running BigClock, and modified to run off wall power instead of batteries -> again, MUCH older than Antony's gadgets, and not his style to modify and repair.

I've barely ever used my smartphone as an alarm, and certainly not on a regular basis. Of course, it is not a "smartphone" by modern standards, hailing from 2004 and with an extra pack just to do Wi-Fi -> yet again, not Antony's style to refurb something old when he can just get a brand new (read: expensive) one.

Don, you are certainly a man to be emulated. I'm always amazed at the ways in which you salvage things that still have some useful life. The ball has been hit back to Antony's side of the court. It's evident that you are poorer than Antony.

Until early this year, I still had a mirror from late 80s. I replaced it with a more up-to-date styled one.

I am sure Don is very into up-to-date.

For your information, I've done a few modifications on my poorman's low-end Mac Pro. I added more RAM (still I did not reach the maximum), changed the internal hard disk, and added an eSATA card to it.

Geeze... a mirror from the 80's, Antony! Now THAT is what I call, frugal. You've knocked the ball back to Don in my view. Not even "I" have a mirror from the 80's!

Still better off than me - I have no mirror (of my own). The only time I'm forced to see myself is when I'm at the bathroom sink.

And mind you, I am still going pretty well with the 5+ year old laptop. I think you've gone through two "new" computers and are now on your third, in the time that I've had my one?

A nice return, Don. No mirror and a five+ year old computer. You could take a picture of yourself with your smart phone and then take a look before heading out in the morning. But obviously you are poorer than Antony even with your Beamer.

I think that'd be one more reason for me to stay home every day.

Before I counter with the fact that Antony is indeed very poor, I can't help myself not to insert this image floating around the net.

Image

Don, perhaps hates built-in webcams (probably due to low quality since he does not usually settle for second best), he has a proper professional-looking video camera/camcorder. Antony does not own any camcorder at all.

How did you count three? I thought I only had two.

The richness is usually indicated by luxury items such cars, particularly big name ones like BMW. Not measured by computers.

I've tried shaving that way, it's next to impossible. In addition to the fact that it doesn't work like a mirror (i.e. directions are reversed), the image quality on my 20-year-old camcorder is simply too poor to allow me to see where I've actually done a decent job shaving, and where I haven't. Plus I've found that the capture card I use to convert the ancient, analog output of the camcorder to the computer introduces enough lag to make the entire shaving situation unbearable.

Three computers - in the time since I bought my one laptop, you've bought an iMac, a MacBook Pro, and a Mac Pro.

And of course, I would count your computers as "luxury items".

I am sure you can simply mirror the video (reverse the direction).

So you also counted the desktops. So what computer(s) did you buy since this year?

Hardly anyone considers a computer is a luxury item. BMW and 4WD are.

I don't even own a car at all. Don is better off.

On some not-so-luxurious items: Don has a professional looking video camera/camcorder, I don't own any. Don is better off.

It appears to be a draw. I can't tell you how broken up I am at the extreme poverty demonstrated by the two of you. It's enough to put me off my breakfast.

Sorry James. Being poor is difficult, you know.

Have a nice day James.

Unfortunately a lot of apps don't play nice when filtering a live DV stream that way. It works fine with real webcams, but DV support so far has been rare.

What computers did I buy since this year? None, easy. Same goes for last year, the year before, the year before that, AND the year before that!

People don't consider computers to be luxury items, however I believe yours easily count as "luxury computers", having cost you so much money each time. And as for the BMW? Let me make it known, about a year after I bought it, I had a friend tell me, surprisedly, "That s***-box is a BMW?" It's not as "luxurious" as you'd think.

We've already established you drive Laurent's car more than I drive my own, what more do you want?

The video camera is far from "professional looking" - it just looks ancient. You can tell it's old, you can tell it's not a professional camera, and when I pop a VHS tape out of it I often get laughs. In fact, I've been asked plenty of times why I don't get a newer camera with more/better features.

I told you many times, no one gives me free computers, hence I have to pay.
Also, ignoring the price tags, you get more computers in a year than I do. Fact.

Don_HH2K wrote:We've already established you drive Laurent's car more than I drive my own, what more do you want?

We also established I don't drive anywhere near the milage you drive (multiple trips of 600+km). I only drive to the regular nearby shopping centres (only few kilometres each) and I hardly drive interstate, the most was only to Canberra (about 290km). Enough to proof that your BMW and now the bigger 4WD are way more used than my short trips with Laurent's car?
