Original message:
Silly Dog stops loading
As I move about the message forum site, the hour glass just hangs there and the pages stop loading. I can bring up about seven to ten topics normally before this occurs.

You should try to contact Antony, directly. It is, no doubt, website related, because I am using the Netscape Lite variety.. In my case, though, it takes a lot of time, but it has loaded. The only extreme case was last night, when I was using the DJGM build, and I got a gray screen with something about not being able to connect with the .php, and I was kicked out of Netscape.
It maybe traffic.

I contacted him about it on "Feedback".
I doubt if the problem is traffic because it happens every time now.

Yes, the problem is only at this site, and Windows Washer empties the 7.02 cache each time I close out. I never bothered to look in there until now because it says "You have no messages". So much for logic! So little for curiosity!

It just happened again after replying to your last message. I had to close Netscape reopen it and log into Sillydog again. No error message. Just stops loading.

About a week ago, I noticed data was being exchanged between the web site and the web browser, after the page had finished loading in.

This only occurred with Netscape 7.02, and did not occur with Opera, IE, or Netscape 4.8.

Could this be related??

An interesting twist here. I tried 4.78 and am bouncing around the Sillydog message board like a Mexican jumping bean. The problem must be with 7.02.

win98se - NO UPDATES - AMD 1.2 /512 mem - NS 7.02 Compact build #1
Mediacom Cable

No apparent problems bouncing around SD (tested 45 jumps) with no hang.

Are you refering to the "transfer bar" at the bottom showing "transfering data from ............." ?

I have had that since 7.0PR1. Known bug then in Release Notes. Don't think ever fixed.
Stop button is greyed out and ZA shows no exchange taking place.

Hold down shift key and use "reload" button on Main toolbar - then shows "document done"

Hatewa,

Try temporarily disabling your Windows' Washer, and see if that has any effect.

I've seen the same re the transfer bar, but it occurred after the page had loaded in.

The N throbber returned to normal, both Netscape 7 and my firewall software systray icon correctly indicated traffic was being exchanged after the page finished loading.

Edward:

Thanks for the reply, I can not replicate this action. So I really can't contribute much to a solution.

Sorry, but I will watch this thread.

I'm reminded of the "corrupted attachements" and the ultimate "router " solution.

It only occurred for a few days, then it stopped. But it was strange that it did not occur when a browser other than Netscape 7 was used.

IE is influenced by phpBB forum software

Postby Dennis L. » Tue 25 Mar, 2003 10:48 pm

For unknown reasons, it appears Hatewa and myself seem to be experiencing the "cursor lock" problem on a constant basis. Knowing how to "set" the bug, I decided to re-create the problem on another forum using phpBB software. Naturally with N7.0, I was able to do this immediately. So then I loaded IE 6.0, and followed the same process... and ended up with the SIMILAR results. IE 6.0 does NOT display the "cursor busy lock", ALLOWS forward URL requests, displaying the progress bar slowly advancing. Once the bug is set, IE 6 will take 2 to 4 minutes to advance to the next screen. I'm on broadband, a normal URL move is approx. 1 to 3 seconds. IE 6.0 like N7's , allows previous or new windows opened to other web sites normal operation. So my concerns look more to windows OS and it's relationship during communications and phpBB software.
Questions to Hatewa
Are you using dialup, DSL or Cable?
Do you use a "Router" for shared ISP service? If yes, brand and model.
Are you networked with another computer? (ISP shared, yes-No)
Any other "communcation device" that is unique?
